View Full Version : Qualification round: Canada/Sweden
Great game so far through one and a half period.
Canada held a 3-1 lead, but the Swedes have shown how dangerous they can be with two quick unanswered goals and we're tied 3-3 with about 11 minutes to go in the second.
This should set up for a great finish.
End of two:
Sweden is now up 4-3.
Canada trails for the first time in this tournament.
Game over.
A great third period for both teams, but not enough time for Canada to come back again.
Final: Sweden 5 - 4 Canada.
Time to hand over the net reigns to Luongo?

Time to hand over the net reigns to Luongo?
I wouldn't necessarily say so (but hey, I'm biased - I'm a netminder). I didn't think marty got much help from his D. I thought Jovo and Souray (just 2 of many) played a pretty crappy game.
The Swedes deserved to with this match. They outplayed the Canadian club. The Canadians seem to be running around not covering their assigments and too many (can you say, Dan Boyle?) playing individual hockey.
I must admit, that tying goal (Nash) of Canada's was a pretty passing play.

I can't believe Canada lost. Sheldon "flash in the pan" Souray played a horrible game and I found myself cursing at the TV a few times out of frustration from the idiotic things Souray did. Jovo didn't impress me either, and he's one of the few Nucks I actually like. If Brodeur was in normal shape, he would have stole this game for Canada, I think it's time to maybe hand the reigns over to Luongo and see how that goes. Marty just doesn't seem to have it.

Although I agree that Brodeur is superior to Theodore, the fact that Jose had a great season in Sweden and is in game shape would make a huge difference. I blame this one on the goaltending.

Defense was as holy as BigJesusJames. Switch up the pairs Habby, we should be ltting no more than 2 TOPS a game...Marty is human (at times).
Still ours to lose Canada...

Swedish team manager Claes-Goran Wallin says Canadian forward Rick Nash should be thrown out of the world hockey championship in Austria for allegedly shoving a linesman near the end of Sweden's 5-4 win over Canada on Saturday.
Wallin told the Swedish newspaper Expressen that he has sent a CD-ROM copy of the incident to officials of the International Ice Hockey Federation's board of officials.
Did anyone see this? I don't recall this incident. Complete story here -> Swedes want Nash suspended from hockey worlds (http://www.cbc.ca/story/sports/national/2005/05/09/Sports/nash_linesman050509.html)
The referee did not file a report concerning Nash or the incident and neither did the supervisor of the game.
I think if there was an problem here... it would have been noted at the time.
Non-issue IMO
No need to worry.
The International Ice Hockey Federation says it will not take any action against Canadian forward Rick Nash for his actions in Saturday's game against Sweden at the world hockey championship.
At the end of Sweden's 5-4 win against Canada, Nash is shown on videotape having words with referee Vjatjeslav Bulanov following a play in front of the Swedish goal. As the play moves up the ice, Nash hooks the official twice from behind with his stick. When a linesman attempts to intervene, Nash turns around and appears to take a swipe at the official.
After reviewing the incident, the IIHF concluded the contact with the official was not deliberate. From TSN.ca (http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/news_story.asp?id=124336).

Good for the IIHF. My feeling on Team Sweden's petty strategies have been made known on a different forum.
