Yeah yeah I know it's still early... but it's obvious now the Rangers are letting up more goals than last season - considerably more.
They're also scoring more and thus sitting at about the .500 mark. So that's good, but the GAA is troubling.
Henrik Lundqvist is not as dazzling as he was last year - at least through the first month here - that much we know. In fact, let's face it - he is struggling with a 3.57 GAA and a .878 SV%.
So in back-to-back games out west it was no surprise that Weekes got the start against Anaheim. A Rangers OT win... but I was surprised to wake up this morning and see that Weekes was back in goal for the 2nd consecutive night, and led the Rangers to a 3-1 win stopping 29 of 30 shots.
Winning is all that matters and in these situations you take the guy who's playing better. So does Renney stick with Weekes when Buffalo comes to town Sunday? or does he throw Lundqvist right back in the fire to get his game on track against the NHL's current best team....
Weekes get a bad rap sometimes in Ranger-land. But I've always maintained that you couldn't ask for a better back-up. He's got a great attitude and he's a team-first guy... never complains even when the fans were booing him last season. And now it looks like he may be poised to reclaim the top spot he lost to Lundqvist last year... at least for the time being.
