For Gleason and Belanger.
Rutherford remains to be an idiot.
Seriously, look at what he's done with the Canes. YES they won a cup... anyone can get lucky ;).
Signed Brind'Amour to a contract paying him for what he's done instead of what he'll do, for the next 5 years.
Let several key UFA's walk without replacing them.
Traded Vasicek away for Adam Hall.
Now he's letting a top 3 pick in the draft go for GLEASON AND BELANGER?!
Christ...
They'll still be a good team, but I don't understand how he ever managed to get this team into a good position... nevermind the fact that most GM's could've set this team up to be as close to a dynasty as you can get in today's NHL.

Whoops, my bad.
Still not a good trade ;)
I find it hard to believe he couldn't have picked up a Brad Stuart type player for JJ at the least.
Well, with Kaberle out for a while I guess the Canes were looking for immediate help on the blueline. That doesn't mean they should trade their best defensive prospect away, but it does somewhat explain the deal. I know I've heard that Johnson has attitude problems, but I don't know about this one. Gleason is a decent enough defenseman, but not in the same caliber that Johnson has the potential to be.
What's the real deal behind this trade. You trade one 6th DMan for another and take on a center that is basically superfluous based on what you already have and in doing so the salaries are a basic wash and you throw in what some consider the best prospect behind Malkin.
Either Rutherford is a complete moron or there's more to this deal. There should have been 28 other teams out there offering equal if not better deals for Jack Johnson.
