NHL Gambling pool

I'll do this again if there's enough interest. I'll post picks and standings weekly in this thread rather than have 2 separate threads. I made a few other minor adjustments to hopefully improve on last season.

How it works

1) Pick a player. That NHL player will accrue points throughout the week based on the below table. As you can see, it's possible to accrue negative points.

2) Pick a multiplier. Your mulitplier determines how heavily you want to gamble that week. If you choose a multiplier of 20 for example, then that week's point total gets multiplied by 20. 10 points would become 200. -8 points would become -160. On the other hand, if you choose a multiplier of 2, that guards against too large of a swing in either direction.

This is how player's points are determined for all games during the week.

TEAM STATS (each game played results in one of the following)

shutout win +10 points (regulation)
regulation win +5 points
overtime win +3 points
shootout win +1 points
shootout loss -1 points
overtime loss -3 points
regulation loss -5 points
shutout loss -10 points (regulation)

INDIVIDUAL STATS (cumulative for all games played during the week)

goals +4 points
assists +2 points
scoreless game -5 points (no goals or assists in a game)

RULES:

Sending Mel a PM (http://www.hockeystation.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=2) is the ONLY official way to enter or update your picks!
Your multiplier may never exceed one half of your current point total.
A week consists of all games played from Sunday through Saturday.
You may pick a new player and multiplier each week. (Private Message Only!)
Deadline for changing your player is that no games have been played yet for the week (per the time of your private message) by either previous or new player's team.
The previous week's player and multiplier are automatically carried over unless new picks are submitted for that week by the deadline.
If you run out of points, you are granted 25 charity points to try and build your fortune back up.
Competition runs through the 2006-2007 regular season.
PLAYER / GAME ELIGIBILITY

If your chosen player is scratched from a game for any reason, they do not accrue any points for that game.
If your chosen player is in the starting lineup, they accrue both team and individual points for that game, even if they leave the game prematurely due to injury or ejection.
Shootout points do not count for individual scoring stats.


Competition begins

Week of October 15 - 21, please submit your player and multiplier by October 14th. The deadline for joining the pool with 500 starting points is November 4th. After the week ending November 4th, newcomers are still welcome to join in - but only 25 "starter" points points will be granted.

Again, to start with 500 points you must PM me with both your player and multiplier number by November 4th at the latest.

(Note: The last week of competition will contain an extra day Sunday April 1 up through and including Sunday April 8.)

The first week's action will be posted in this thread on Sunday October 15th.
