Not sure what Chicago is trying to accomplish this season, but I like the move by Philly.

When I saw the original post I thought a big center for Havlat.

Man, I am really gonna miss Handzus. He's one of those guys that embody everything you want in an NHL player. Hits, can score some, plays solid defense, gives 100% every shift.

Supposedly this trade adds about $800,000 to the team salary. With Gagne still left to sign, this has to mean someone else is going to be traded. Most likely candidate is Nedved and his useless 2+ million on the cap. Or maybe this means that Primeau is really done, which I think is very likely.

As for the actual trade and eliminating all emotion towards Handzus, this was a good trade. Calder is a pretty good player. He led the pathetic Blackhawks in points last year with 59 and seems pretty responsible defensively. He'll probably compliment Carter and Umberger on the 2nd line. Bottom line is that we just had too many centers and something had to give. Handzus brought us back a pretty good player who is 2 years younger and probably a little more fit towards the play of the new NHL. Regardless of everything I just said, I will really miss Handzus.

It looks like this trade may be good for both teams.

In the TSN article it sounds like the Hawks are planning on using Handzus as the #1 Center.

Handzus has been one of my favourite players for years and was actually one of the unsung heroes and leaders on the Flyers. While Handzus will be missed the addition of Kyle Calder is a good one and bodes well for the future.Clarke made a good trade, now its time to dump Nedved!

Cheers

When I first read the news, I was thinking of a salary dump by the BlackHawks, but after seeing that Handzus is making over $2 million, I must admit not understanding this trade. Calder is young, has size, can skate and can score. Handzus is a good player but last year has shown that he's struggling adapting to this "new NHL". Someone call the cops, Chicago got robbed on this one!

Not really. Michal is a very versatile player. He did the best he could while be bounced from line to line in the past season. Sometimes he had Brash & Radio on a line, that doesn't scream offense central. He played on a line with Savage and Richards and him and Richards worked out really well. He just got moved a lot due to injuries and then he got injured as well. He can be good offensively if you give him good linemates and he stays with that line throughout the season. He gave Leclair and Recchi good numbers in 03-04. I think he will be a good player for Chicago but like Liam said, everyone will miss Zeuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus.

Bye big man, welcome to Philly Calder.
