The Wings will likely acquire a goalie through a trade. Possible candidates include Martin Biron of Buffalo and Vesa Toskala of San Jose. Other goalies rumored to be available include Robert Esche of Philadelphia, Mathieu Garon of Los Angeles, Kevin Weekes of the New York Rangers

Sorry man Sather is too late as Dominek Hasek is back with the Wings today signing a 1 yr deal.A bit of a puzzling move considering the Wings and Hasek departed on bad terms.

There's not much of a market out there for Weekes so I don't know where he'll end up or who needs him?

Hasek a Wing again?

Hopefully he will be more useful to Detroit than he was to Ottawa.

If Hasek plays the way he did for Ottawa for 4 months for a full year and the playoffs Detroit will be thrilled probably. Of course how likely is that? I already see another injury.

That assumes the Rangers are actively shopping him which I don't believe. So I think he'll wind up right where he is as a Ranger top 2.

Don't quote me on this but I think Weekes is in the last year of his contract (06-07), which works very much to the Rangers favor. Is Lundqvist for real?... it will be a lot more settling to find out with an experienced goalie on the bench. Alvaro Montoya will probably stay in Hartford for the time being.

Basically with Weekes around, it buys more development time for both Lundqvist and Montoya, and it gives the Rangers more options and injury insurance.

If I'm Glen Sather, I don't trade Weekes right now. Suppose God forbid Lundqvist gets hurt or goes the way of an Andrew Raycroft in his sophomore campaign... I would not be ready to hand the team over to Al Montoya.

That's right now... by the trade deadline in March 07, we'll know a lot more about the 2 young guys, and if there is a market for Weekes... it will be stronger at that time - perhaps to a decent team who lost their goalie to injury for example, and still wants to make a run.

Ya, some on-the-bubble teams might view Weekes as an upgrade come March 2007. TB jumps to mind if Denis flops. I wouldn't doubt a few teams in the West would feel they could make the final push to the playoffs with him in net, if their starting goalie had an injury and the back-up wasn't cutting it. Weekes has had stretches of great play in his carreer, and I wouldn't be surprised if some GM grabbed him in hopes of getting him on one of his hot streaks.

On the flip-side, I for one have the Rags as my early favorite for the Atlantic Division. It should be close with Philly but hopefully the addition of Shanahan, and others, will be enough to get them one of the top 3 seedings in the East. Now that said, if the Rags are a legitimate contender, I think they would hold on to their veteran goalie incase anything happens to Lundqvist.

Ofcourse if Lundqvist goes down in the first month with a season ending injury, do they;
A) Play Weekes for the entire season
B) Play Montoya as much as possible, a platoon situation maybe
c) Go get another goalie

I think Mel is correct( how is that for kissin up to the boss:o ) Who knows Weeks could still end up in Motown if Hasek falters or Legace gets injured.;)
