UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CP) - The fallout continues on Long Island.
New York Islanders senior adviser Pat LaFontaine advised Islanders owner Charles Wang on Tuesday night that he is resigning, a source told The Canadian Press.
LaFontaine was hired on June 8, the same day the Islanders hired Ted Nolan as their new coach and Neil Smith as general manager.

Suddenly Bill Wirtz and Jeremy Jacobs have competion for the Harold Ballard Memorial Ownership Incompetence trophy. A little known award instituted in the 90's and first given to Micheal Eisner for naming his team after a movie he produced.

This is beyond ridiculous, I honestly thought that it could get no worse then Ballard/MLSE, but the Wang era in Long Island is proving to be cream of the crop. Let's review shall we(and if your an Islander fan I would just ignore the next little bit because you'll probably need some therapy if you haven't already searched for it already)
Mike Millbury is the GM of the team and will probably go down as one of the worst ever trading star after star(Luongo, Bertuzzi, Palffy, McCabe, Chara, Spezza, etc, etc, etc) and in return for these guys getting absolutely nothing of value in return for these caliber players.
Wang goes over Millbury's head as owner and forces(as per written reports) the deal for Alexei Yashin who is then rewarded with probably the most ridiculously stupid salary in NHL history. In return Chara and Spezza go to Ottawa.
After hearing that Yashin does not get along with Peter Laviolette, Laviolette is promptly fired as Head Coach of the Isles and goes on to...
Coach the 2006 Stanley Cup Champions Carolina Hurricanes in his 1st Full Season with the team.
Coach the U.S.A. Olympic Hockey team.
The Islanders, well they go through another of the seemingly endless supply of coaches that has been awarded to Mike Millbury.
Captain Mike Peca is dealt away because he is getting in the way of the team officially belonging to Yashin. In his absence Yashin once again does next to nothing in any role to take over the team.
Millbury finally realizes he is a moron who should've been canned over a decade ago and "steps down" as GM, but is that the end of him... nope, he is given a cushy job within the organization and even has the input in his eventual successor.
Wang assembles his advisors or for lack of a better term GM by committees consisting of Lafontaine, Trottier and then the eventual "GM" Neil Smith.
Rather then letting the New "GM" get to pick his coach, Wang goes out and hires Ted Nolan and assumes that Neil Smith wanted him and that they will get along.
Smith is fired a month and a half into his tenure because of creative differences(AKA wanting to change the face of the team and not wanting to deal with Wang Board of advisiors) and is replaced by a goalie with no experience in any kind of management position and who just retired(when the hell did he retire, today?)
Lafontaine wakes up to the cess pool that is Long Island and promply quits soon to be followed more then likely by Brian Trottier(if he knows what's good for him)
Every single person who follows hockey points and laughs and realizes that no matter how bad it gets in your city, it's nowhere near as bad as those poor bastards in Long Island.

I'll sh!t if Nolan quits tommorow..<and to top it off, Yashin resigns and becomes head coach>

Actually it could almost help the Isles if Yashin retired and got a job else where in the organization, it would save them 7 mil a year for the next 5 years.
I find it interesting how he was fired the same day that Peca signed with the Leafs. It is no secret that the Islanders were after him so maybe there is a connection and maybe not.
EJ Hradek on ESPN.com said that Wang once "seriously considered sending team execs to Japan to scout Sumo wrestlers with the idea of turning them into NHL goalkeepers"

Now Playing net for the New York Islanders...... Yokozuna! Hahaha
I'm no sumo wrestler but I'll play net for cheap. I'll play for the interest off Yashin's contract. :D
