Now that's peculiar.

I know Wang is a "hands-on" owner. Maybe he and Smith weren't seeing eye-to-eye about somethiing

GARTH SNOW IS THE NEW GM

I can't breath. This has to be the funniest thing I've ever read.

I thought you were joking.

Wang is officially insane. He goes around Milbury to get Yashin and then proceeds to throw 90 million in Yashin's pocket. He then hangs on to Milbury after years of ineptitude (still serving as a VP in Wang's organization even today).

He offered DiPietro a 15 year contract.

Then he hires Neil Smith, fires him a month later - and makes one of his goalies the new GM

Move aside Boston and Chicago, the New York Islanders are now officially the biggest joke of a franchise in the NHL. Their offseason sounds like a TV sitcom.

Because Snow doesn't have the intelligence to object to any more of the Islanders stupid moves.

I thought Patty Lafontaine would have made a much better choice...

I read that Wang was impressed with conversations he and Snow have had over recent months. But to be a GM?? come on, you need more than a good line of bull that amuses Mr. Wang. At least a shred of coaching or back office experience should be mandatory.

But Wang is a character. He's actually a very interesting man if you read up on his life story. From this day forward, nothing he does will ever surprise me again. :)

And to add a bit of sanity here... I also read that Wang wanted to foster sort of a group management environment, i.e. Snow will not have anywhere near the freedoms of a regular GM. The rest of Wang's crew will have just as much say as Snow. At least that's how I'm reading this.

And I can see why Neil Smith would have a hard time with that.... and I can see why Garth Snow would not.

But even if I'm right and it's a committee... the sensible thing to do would be to let a guy who's beyond his playing days serve as GM.
