Locusts plague highway, blinding drivers
CHITTAGONG, Bangladesh (Reuters) - Swarms of locusts blinded drivers, halting traffic along a 25 mile stretch of a highway linking Dhaka to the southern port of Chittagong, police said Sunday.

Masses of insects started hitting windshields around midnight Saturday, forcing dozens of trucks and buses to stop on the highway for up to four hours, a Chittagong police officer said.

"They came flying by millions, all on a sudden, apparently from nowhere, causing panic among passengers," the officer said.

The motorists resumed their journey around dawn when the swarm cleared.

Creepy, I read somewhere that the bubonic plague was re-surfacing (a disease that wiped out 1/3 of Europe's population some 700-800 years ago.)

I wouldn't worry...I heard that Hollywood is out there filming the sequel to the Bible.

This ties in the whole exploding frog thingy too...

Don't max out the credit cards yet Armageddon isn't here. Locust infestations are fairly common in Northern Africa. Last year they extended to Isreal.

Not to pull a Cliff Claven or anything but the phenomenon is actually quite normal and common. I don?t know the details but they some how gather because of lack of food and then they start rubbing against each other. This sends them into a frenzy and they basically destroy any vegetation in their path.

I watch the learning channel!

Did you follow that up by sacrificing a lamb on your balcony?

I ate BBQ lamb (Greek Easter) on Sunday if that helps.

Anyone catch the TV movie "Locusts (http://www.cbs.com/specials/locusts/)" last week on CBS?

If you did, you'd be crapping yourself if you heard there was a swarm heading your way.

I take it it was goodNot bad for a TV movie. There was several poor graphics with the locusts, like the way the glass was breaking when they were attacking cars, buildings, etc.. I didn't mind the story line, but at times it seemed a little redundant when the attacks occured.

We're pretty much locust-free here in northern Alberta, although we do have grasshoppers in the southern part of the province.

We have those damn tent caterpillars. They are damn greasy when you drive over them. The squirmy buggers will completey cover the highway. It looks like a mirage as the highway moves with millions of them on the asphalt. Slicker than owl sh!t to drive on too.

Kill a bunch of owls and plant their little heads on stakes along the highway... to spook away the other owls.

We were gonna try that with squirrels who kept eating our tomatoes but we got drunk and forgot about it.
