Er... I like the twins and think they're very effective players.

That said, 3.575 a year for them for 3 years? Wow... risky signing.

And, Vancouver has some serious cap issues. The team as of today...

Naslund (6.0) Morrison (3.2) - #1 RW
Sedin (3.575) Sedin (3.575) - #2 RW
#3 LW - Linden (1.52) - Cooke (1.508)
#4 LW - # 4C - #4 RW

Ohlund (3.5) Salo (1.5)
#2 Defensemen #4 Defensemen
#5 Defensemen #6 Defensemen

Luongo (6.0)
Cloutier (2.55)

= 33.86

Trade Cloutier and assume his backup (Noranen?) makes $1,000,000

= 32.86

A million cap space is pretty much necessary.. so that leaves the Canucks with $10,000,000 to sign: 4 defensemen, 2 top 6 forwards, a 3rd line LW and an entire 4th line

Glad to see them signed, the cap space wil be problematic.

I think teams should be able to trade cap space.

You can.

If the GM in Washington has any idea of what he's doing - he's talking to Bobby Clarke about a trade for Mike Rathje and a 2nd round pick (just a random example) for future considerations.

Technically thats how you can do it but I mean as in we'll trade this for X amount of cap space.

Linden is not the 3rd line center. The guy barely could crack it as the 4th line center. Not to mention, he wasn't qualified :thumb:

I think he'll retire..stay within the organization..

The third line will probably include Cooke, Kesler, and King..not bad..especially if Kesler improves

Yeah, this is a great signing. The twins will continue to improve, and form the new core of the Vancouver Canucks

Good job Nonis :D

The entire fourth line should be able to be signed for less than 2 million.

#'s 3 & 4 D-men could easily cost 3-4 million.

#'s 5 & 6 D-men could both possibly be near league min. so maybe 1.5 million.

So that woud roughly leave 2.5 - 3 million dollars to sign two good wingers. Although it could be significantly more if Nonis can find some guys willing to come to Vancouver for cheap. Who wouldn't want to play infront of Luongo? So he may have 4-5 million to spend on two wingers. Now we are talking some quality money and talent.

Nonis has his work cut out for him, but I think he can do it.

I am becoming a convert after the Luongo deal. Nonis snagged the pick of the litter in that one.

Oh yeah, I think he can do it

He mentioned that they will look at the free agency market, but that also some trades will have to happen

They have plenty of time, and patience is a virtue

The Canucks are already a stronger team than the last few seasons..

Nonis must have read my post because he signed Willie Mitchell to a 4yr $14 mill contract, just what the Canucks needed!:thumb:

They were two of the only Vancouver forwards who met or exceeded expectations last year. I would have been dissapointed if they were not resigned, maybe a half million per year less would have been nice, but probably tough to get. It is kind of cool to see them getting the exact same contract, they really are the twins.

Agreed. Mitchell is an ideal signing. Vigneault will coach more of a two way game, with more defensive responsibilty

Mitchell wants to play here, so that really helps

Good job Nonis :thumb:

As of this writing Carter is still unsigned anywhere, leading me to think he will come back, as it looks like people realize he had great numbers last season with the Sedin's but had been an on and off player with other teams. That said he will now probably end up somewhere else:rolleyes:

Now I am not saying he is a first line RW but somebody who will get a look at training camp will be Jesse Shultz: http://www.moosehockey.com/roster/schultz_jesse/
A former 53 goal scorer on a Kelowna Rocket team that was defensive minded he did record 63 points on the Moose last season

Looks like a nice prospect. Has some offensive skills it would seem.

Yeah, Nonis seems quite high on Schultz. However, he isn't the best skater..and this is a concern with the new NHL. I'd give him a Lee Goren shot..and see what happens

Balej is perhaps a better option

He seems built for the new NHL, and has a boatload of potential. He had a decent playoff, after returning from serious injury..some would say career threatening. So, he also has a lot of character..and dedication to the game

Looking back at this I now wish this deal was longer, perhaps a 5yr deal instead of 3 yrs. With the Havlat signing of $18 mil over 3 yrs the Twins after their 3 yr deal is up will be looking at over $5 mil a yr atleast!:eyebug:

Cheers

Of course I am going to promote ex Kelowna Rockets ;) In my world, Shea Weber, Brett MacLean, Kelly Guard , Vaclav Varada, Sheldon Souray and Scott Hannan would all be Canucks, not going to happen but as I recall the Canucks have never really gone after products of BC based WHL teams.
