View Full Version : File this under I hope not: Roberts requests a return home
Rumour floating out there that Gary Roberts wants to be closer to his Daughter in Toronto, and Mike Keenan is exploring this avenue.
GOD NO
Rumors are circulating this morning that Gary Roberts, a former fan favorite in Toronto, has asked the Florida Panthers to investigate a trade with his former club. Roberts cites his desire to be closer to his daughter, who attends school in Toronto.
While Mike Keenan has reportedly agreed to investigate the possibility, I would like to point out that Roberts may be better suited to retirement than playing another season in the blue & white.
The only way I want this to go down is if its only a conditional draft pick. Conditions being, it only costs the Leafs a pick if Gary Roberts plays all 82 games, the Leafs win the cup, and Ben Ondrus wins the scoring title.

Roberts whining like a little girl again. What a surprise:rolleyes:
I feel bad for Mats. With all the cap room we have maybe he'd finally get the top line winger he deserves, but no, he might just get Gary again.

I thought you leaf guys liked Roberts?
I'd take him as a third line winger

I love the guy. Works very hard. But, Fergy would probably think he would solve our top line winger problem. I wouldn't mind having him here at a reduced salary and as a 3rd line winger.

Who was it Roberts blasted about Sundin not having any wingers?
Quinn leaves and Roberts wants to return, no one else thinks that's just a little convenient?
I too loved the guy, but I would much rather see Joe come back.

I'm not one to partake in the dangling of rumors, but this is one that caught my attention. Late last night, I had a few people e-mail me suggesting that there was a trade in the works which would see the Maple Leafs acquire Gary Roberts in exchange for Ed Belfour's contract and a mid-to-late round draft pick. While I'm certainly willing to entertain the possibility that this is merely wishful conjecture on the part of over-zealous Leafs fans, there is a certain amount of plausibil...
I?m sure leaf fans would agree belfour for Roberts would be too good to be true. Florida does need goaltending but I have a hard time believing they?d want to absorb Belfours contract

If the Panthers are theleading contender for the services of Jovo, who is looking for $5-6 Million absorbing Belfour's contract does not make sense.
If the Panthers are theleading contender for the services of Jovo, who is looking for $5-6 Million absorbing Belfour's contract does not make sense.Actually, looking at the numbers, Florida would actually get Belfour for only 2.2m, because they would lose Robters and his 2.25 contract. And, the Leafs in essence would get Roberts for only 750 grand, because they would not have to buyout Eddie at 1.5, hrmmm?
