TSN reports that Luongo and Kraijeck have been traded to Vancouver for Bertuzzi, Alex Auld and Bryan Allen.

Not too surprising but still alittle because Luongo seemed to be untradeable but when you are that talented somebody will always want you and take the risk.

If it's true it's an awesome blockbuster deal as both team got excellent players coming back to them. Now imagine if those guys from Boston would've put some more thought into the Thornton deal what they could've got in return

If this is what tomorrow is going to be like we're in for a real show! :boogie:

Anyway, Lukas Krajicek is a good young defenseman and shouldn't be overlooked just because he appeared as somewhat of a throw in here. What is he, 23? He should be a nice second pairing defenseman who can QB a PP in a few years. He will soon make the pain of losing Allen minimal for the Canucks. And with Luongo in net I think they can manage a small hit to their D corps. ;) I never liked Bertuzzi at all - Vancouver certainly didn't like his contract - and he just plain needed out of Vancouver. Auld being thrown in is completely moot with Roberto tending goal for years to come now out West. Great trade for Vancouver. With Krajicek being included, I'm surprised the Panthers couldn't get a bit more.

Enjoy the post-trade excitement Canuck fans! :thumb:

Good point. I did assume they would use the $$$ freed up from moving Bert to sign Luongo long term. That may not be a safe assumption afterall, but I couldn't see Vancouver doing this trade otherwise.

Looking at their team, they're good, but still have some problems. This is the same group that not only underachieved all season to miss the playoffs but also cracked when the pressure was on in April. Though I'm happy they did being partial to the Oil, it really should have been Vancouver in that final playoff spot out West. They just collpased. Basically, it doesn't seem like they're going to go all out next season due to this trade. In that case, you would have to think they'd be fairly confident in terms of inking Luongo to an extension.

That is, unless Nonis isn't done dealing in Lotus Land. :pimp:

Personally, I just think Luongo wanted out of Florida.

Holy Snappin Crap! I didn't think Nonis had the gnads to pull this off. now he just has to sign Roberto. I think Todd Bertuzzi will benefit from the change of residence. Also Keenan was the guy who brought him to Vancouver so they do have some history.

It does keep the North-West interesting eh Oil fans?

The only thing for Nonnis to do now is get him signed. If they can't lock him up that's alot to give up. The Canucks finally get a goalie...and a franchise goalie to boot.

Personally I was expecting the Domi & Belfour for Luongo deal to happen..

Good deal for both teams. Vancouver gets the #1 goalie they haven't had in a long time, plus some help defensively. Florida gets Bertuzzi, who can still be the most dominant power forward in the game if he wants to be, plus a goalie who proved himself to be solid in Auld, and a decent defensive defenseman in Allen.

Looks like Nonis has finally made a good move, I hope it pays off. It'll be interesting to see what kind of contract the Canucks are willing to give him.

Wow. Nonis did something..

Risky move. The Nucks have to lock him up long term now.

Nice deal for the Nucks. Hopefully Nonis can sign Luongo to a longterm deal. Realistically, Nonis might as well offer him something close to the league Maximum on a long term deal. If he doesn't some other team will when Roberto becomes an UFA.

Anyway, congrats to Vancouver. NW Champs 06-07. You heard it here first.:)

This is the problem as I see it. Luongo wants a NTC, but he is one year a way from being eligible. This is why he only wants a one year deal, I think if he signs a long term now, he won't be able to get one in any of the years he signs for. Now he has said he wants to finish his career in Florida, could Keenan and Lupien be up to no good??? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Conspiracy :wicked:

Actually Bertuzzi is a UFA at the end of this season! What is not to say he starts pining for the Wet Coast again especially if he tires of the Keenan mind games.

Past evidence has shown that Bert in the final year of a contract is a 90+ point producer, will he have the supporting cast in South Florida to want to keep him there long term? There is some young talent there but will they contend? Stay tuned.

I like the deal. Personally I think Bertuzzi wanted to get as far away from Vancouver as possible for a fresh start. and he did.... all the way to southern florida.

Keenan was a big Bertuzzi fan before he blossomed into one of the game's premier power forwards. So this is not surprising.

As for the Nucks, well what can you say? It's Luongo!

It's OK that he's a year from UFA. Give him reason to like it in Vancouver (i.e. get the right players in front of him) and pay him his fair market value next year... there's no reason Vancouver cannot retain him, unless he really wants to go play somewhere else. But I don't think it's that big of a risk because Bert was going to leave Vancouver first at the first opportunity anyway.

Another point to ponder here is the potential impact of having Luongo on the team and how it changes the percepion of the Canucks to other free agents. Might it attract some people to want to sign as the team on paper will now be a preseason(at least ) playoff contender?

I was working, and overheard someone say Auld/Allen were traded..and the deal was huge. Later I found out the rest of the deal

This is a huge deal for the Canucks. This provides them with a quality elite No.1 goaltender.

Bertuzzi needed a fresh start, and he will do well. Goodluck to him

Now, Nonis has to get Luongo signed. I am sure he will

Great work Nonis, you officially left the buffet. Vigneault, Luongo..I am liking the look of this new team

This is truely a great deal for Vancouver. Bertuzzi is an idiot and he's also overrated. Alex Auld has value, but Luongo is a clear upgrade. Bryan Allen goes, and Krajicek comes the other way. Great deal for the nucks.

I'd think so

BTW, Cloutier will be traded. Tambs mentioned it, and read between the lines. So, this will free up more salary

Also, it will be interesting who Nonis acquires..via trade..or free agency to fill the vacant spot left by Bertuzzi

I am sure he isn't done yet

He makes 2.5 million a season, not bad for a guy who has three straight 30 win seasons ;)

There's a reason the other names out there are more expensive. That reason is because they are all better. The only reason Cloutier got 30 wins is because of the team in front of him. He's the guy that kept dragging this team down. What good team would want him to be their garbage? Even if you did find a few teams who wanted him, you won't get anything more then a 3rd or 4th rounder for him.

I don't know. I think given the right situation Cloutier can be a decent starter. Sure he's not All-Star caliber, but depending on the team he ends up with, he may not have to be. He wouldn't be a bad option for a team looking to split time between two goalies, or needing a veteran play with a younger guy. Cloutier still gets more flak than I think he deserves to be honest, but that's just my opinion.

If you look at the current 30 starting goalies in the NHL, atleast 25 of them are better then Cloutier, and the ones that arent probably wont be starting next year.

Vancouverites should be thankful they have Luongo even if only for one season.

I wasn't counting Raycroft as a back-up. I don't know if Raycroft is such an improvement over Clutzier or not. He needs more playing time to make sure he wasn't a one year wonder. His poor start to last season doesn't instill much confidence. But his Calder Trophy keeps me hopeful.

As frustrated as I have been with Dan Cloutier, he has won 30 games in 3 seasons prior to this last one. He was the wrong goalie for this team and the style played by Crawford and company. He was left out to dry to often by poor defensive zone coverage and by some forwards who never or wouldn't back check. On a team with a tighter defensive system, Cloutier could be a steady goal tender. He is the wrong guy for Vancouver and he needs to move on.

Well to me this is a steal by Vancouver and you guys must be grinning from ear to ear.

In response to your post TT in the other section I somewhat agree in Bert’s value but think he’s on the decline and is not as well suited for the “new” NHL. You were right in some GM’s still must think otherwise. I don’t see Bert ever getting 100 let alone 80 or 90 points again unless he’s lined with some pretty great players.

If Vancouver can resign Luango they’ve just pulled off one hell of a great deal and I look forward to seeing Vancouver in action with Luango in nets

Bertuzzi gets a new opportunity in Florida, less media coverage there, fewer people in the South East confernce to boo him evey time he is on the ice, Keenan loves him and he has Gary Roberts and Joe Niewendyk (sic) as an influence in the dressing room. He had to move on from Vancouver, he is in thelast year of his contract and has always preformed better in the last year of a contract, a fishy freind somewhere else ;) calls him 90 point Bert.

I think the next week to 10 days will be very intresting in terms of free agents and more player moves as the cap is now $44 and just which teams players and agents think have the horses to contend, and guys make a decision based on money or the chance to go for the glory.
