View Full Version : Canes sign Brind'Amour to 5-year deal
The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed captain Rod Brind'Amour to a five year deal.
The deal will pay the veteran centre $4 million in each of the first three years, and $3 million in each of the last two years, and is in lieu of the 2006-07 option on his prior contract.
I didn't see this comming, 3 years sure, but 5??

Well Rod must look good to the Canes, what with the 30 goal season, the Selke Trophy and oh yea that Stanley Cup ring.

What a nice bonus for bringing the cup to Carolina.
Way to Go Rod! :thumb:

5 years is too way long of a deal. Bad move by the Canes... 3 years max on a guy that age. If he's still a good asset at 39, extend him then.
That's just common sense.

Mistake. Big mistake.
GMs should pay and sign players for what they can EXPECT of them, not what they already GOT from them. At his age, Brind'Amour will not get better, he will only decline in ability.
Plus, if it doesn't work out at all, then the club is still on the hook for his contract hit against the cap, since he's older than 35.

Yeah, just ask the Devils how Alexander Mogilny and Vladimir Malakhov worked out for them.:o

Totally agree!
But Rod does deserve this contract so good for him!
Cheers
