Well I may as well start tooting the horn for my home town team. Last night the Kelwona Rockets knocked off the Kootenay Ice in the western conference final of the WHL. They await the winner of the Brandon -Prince Albert for the right to represent the WHL at his years Memorial Cup. Kelowna is gunning for its 3rd straight Memorial Cup appearaqnce.
The Ice-Rockets series was great hockey. The last 3 games all went into OT. If you didn't enjoy this series you don't like hockey.

Well the Rockets, the team rated as the top defensive team in the WHL met the Brandon Wheat Kings, the team with the top rated offence in the WHL. Kelowna won 3-0 in front of a boistrous sold out Prospera Place crowd. The game was very intense and despite this being only the second meeting of these two teams this season, bad blood seems to be boiling between them. Should be a fun series.

The Rockets prevailed yet again on Saturday night defeating Brandon 4-1. The starting goalie for Kelowna was Chris Westbloom subbing for an injured Derek Yeomans . The Rockets peppered the Brandon net with over 40 shots and gave up only 15. The Wheatkings played a very undisciplined game with numerous slashing infractions. As the series is 2-3-2 format. Saturday was possibly the Rockets last appearance at Propsera Place this season.

Last night the Brandon WheatKings defeated the Kelowna Rockets 3-2. The Rockets despite carrying most tof the play could only solve Wheaties goalie Tyler Plante 2 minutes in to the first and with about 1:30 left in the third. Game 4 goes tonight, and game 5 on friday in Brandon. If necessary the series returns to Kelowna on Sunday for game 6 and 7 onTuesday May 17.

The Rockets prevailed in Overtime last night 2-1 when Lauris Darzins pocketed his own rebound over Tyler Plante. The Wheatkings were more comptative peppering rookie Kelowna goalie Kris Westbloom with 36 shots. Plante faced 29 at the other end. Shea Weber added to his offensive totals by pocketing his 9th goal, and considering he missed the series against Vancouver with a knee injury and only really found his stride against Kootenay, this offensive surge is welcome.
An interesting note about Kelowna's playoff run they have virtually shut down the big time goal scores they have faced. Gilbert Brule (Vancouver Giants), Eric Gagnon (Seattle), Nigel Dawes (Kootenay) and now Eric Fehr have collectively only potted 5 goals against the Rockets thus far.
I wonder if anyone in the east is paying attention?

8-3 Kelowna!  :band:
A very happy okanagan tonight. I was out with the family this evening and only managed to catch bits and pieces on the radio and TV.
The Rockets are the first Western team since the mid 70's New West Bruins to make 3 straight appearances in the Memorial Cup.

Well I'll post here and in the the tourney thread. Kelowna has not shown thier best, they have not finished their chances. Against Ottawa they fired 62 shots, but were stopped by a very hot goal tender in Battochio. Tonight London with stood an early onslaught from Kelowna and then exploited Kelowna's short fall. The Rockets are not a come from behind team. Congratulations to the Knights and their fans.
