http://tsn.ca/nfl/news_story.asp?id=168593
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is undergoing surgery at Mercy Hospital after he was injured in a motorcycle accident on Monday.
The extent of his injuries are unknown.
"Ben is in serious but stable condition and right now is in the operating room undergoing surgery for injuries he received in this accident," said Dr. Larry Jones, chief of trauma at Mercy. "Before he went into the surgery, he was talking to me and was coherent. He knew where he was and what had happened."
Roethlisberger was injured when his motorcycle crashed into a car at an intersection in downtown Pittsburgh. The accident occurred at the Second Avenue side of the 10th Street Bridge near the Armstrong Tunnel.
An eyewitness told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Roethlisberger flew into the windshield of the car and hit the ground after his motorcycle crashed into the car. He was bleeding from a gash on his forehead before being taken to the hospital.
Jesus, I hope he is ok. Only 23 and has the world by the balls.
Good luck Big Ben.
I feel no sympathy. We've seen this story too many times.
Athletes like this are so selfish to their team and likely go against their contracts to endanger their lives on a crotch rocket.

Well that's great JR.
But back to the rest of humanity. I hope he's OK. He is overhyped but is great and has the possibility to be HOF great.
He is overhyped but is great and has the possibility to be HOF great.Overhyped? Not a chance. It's not like people are already calling for his induction in Canton.

HE CAN BEAT ANYONE IN A RACE,. THERE IS NO DENYING HE MIGHT BE THE BEST HUMAN BEING TO EVER GRACE US WITH HIS ALMIGHTY PRESENCE."

Deep down we all knew this would happen. Last year in the offseason there was a big deal about how he didn't wear a helmet when riding his bike, and it was only a matter of time. Hopefully Big Ben has learned his lesson from this experience, recovers well, and can continue on with his career.

It's sad that something like this happened, but I actually kinda agree with J.R. to a certain extent and if he wasn't wearing a helmet he was basically asking for trouble. I know athletes deserve to have some sort of freedom in their personal lives, but riding a bike without a helmet is just as dangerous as driving without a seat-belt and even though you may avoid trouble for a while, someday in the blink of an eye everything can change. Hell, I'm just recovering from an auto accident I was involved in a few weeks ago. I'll spare you the details, all I'll say is that I am glad I was wearing a seatbelt and there were no major injuries. In Ben's case riding a cycle without a helmet is just too dangerous for anyone athlete or no athlete and even though there are some accidents where guys have no chance of survival, in this case a helmet may have prevented a serious injury. Like LFL said, I hope he's learned a lesson from this...
Like LFL said, I hope he's learned a lesson from this...Everyone should have learned a lesson already.

If this ends another young athlete's career, then so be it.

I really hope he recovers, and is able to get back to playing as soon as possable. Hopefully he also learnt a major lesson, he is still a young guy, it is amazing all he has gone through so young.

Back in the day, when I had a bike . . .we used to head down to New Hampshire . . .just because they have no helmet laws.
Now riding a bike without a hemet is dangerous, but that's part of the appeal.
Many people go their whole life(sometimes a very long one) without wearing a helmet, and without injury.
I saw a friend lose his leg in a bike accident, which is why I don't ride anymore.(he was wearing a helmet . . .didn't save his leg)
The point is, just riding a bike can be dangerous.
Should athletes be banned from riding . . .or driving a snowmobile . . .or sky-diving . . .or whatever activity . . .because they have a responsibility to their team, the fans ?
People take risks everyday, phsically, mentally, financially, etc.
Sometimes it bites you, sometimes not.
I remember travelling i93, with the wind in my face, and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.
It's good to see that he doesn't have any major, career threatening injuries because of this. This whole subject is a tough one, because on the one hand players should be able to have personal lives and do what they enjoy, but on the other hand they're also under contract to a team that relies on them. Personally, I don't think it's as huge of a deal as some people are making it out to be.
