game summary (http://www.ihwc.net/english/article/recaps/index.ihwc?&artId=1977)
Team Canada opened its World Championship title defense with a hard-fought 6-4 win over the Latvians this afternoon in Innsbruck, scoring four power play goals and chasing starting goalie Edgars Masalskis in the process. Rick Nash led the way for Canada with a hat trick. The first two Latvian scores came on glaring giveaways by the Canadians, who were mostly too overpowering for their smaller, less skilled opponents. For two periods there was a steady stream of Latvians to the penalty box for hooking and tripping, classic obstruction fouls indicative of lesser strength and speed.
Nash had fantastic game. Gotta love that glove save that Brodeur made...just too bad it was inside the net!
Some rust on the Canadian club. Isn't that the way anyway...regardless if most of the squad hasn't played at all?
