Brutal. The slow motion video of him going off the ice showed the blood coming from his eye area. It was hard to tell where exactly he was cut, but it almost looked like he was crying blood. If he can beat cancer he can bounce back from this. Here's to a speedy recovery. :thumb: :gulppint:

Yuppers, didn't look too good at all. It was weird how he didn't fall to the ice and go for the default kicking and flailing motion that most eye-injured players display. (And most of us would) He knew he had to get off the ice I guess... cost him a penalty draw though. Hopefully it's not as bad as we fear. So many players that refuse to wear a visor have always used the excuse that it can happen anyways. This won't help to change that.

Saku Koivu is looking at several weeks of recovery following surgery to his left eye.

Doctors who repaired a retina tear on the weekend appeared confident the Montreal Canadiens captain will completely regain his vision.

Koivu, 31, was clipped in the left eye by an errant stick from Carolina Hurricanes forward Justin Williams in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference quarter-final.

Koivu said Williams's stick grazed the eye and broke a bone just to the left of the eye, but the good news is that the front part of his eye didn't suffer any major damage.

When the veteran centre spoke publicly last Friday for the first time since the incident, he said a full prognosis on the health of his eye was still impossible to make because there is still blood "floating around" in the back of the eye.

Koivu has played all 10 of his NHL seasons in Montreal. The native of Finland has 137 goals and 460 points in 569 career games.

Good to hear, he should completely recover his vision.
