That's crazy. They had a good chance at going deep in the playoffs.

Now #5 in the west is going to have an easier ride in the first round.

Nice

What would your reaction be, if someone posted that response to Nash breaking his leg again?

Seeing how im a Bluejacket fan and Columbus vs. Nashville is equivilent to Ohio State vs Michigan, I would probably feel like were going downhill again.

But, weve had our too much of fair share of injuries.

#5 already had the EASIEST ride in the first round. Put Nashville in any other division and they outright miss the playoffs.

Guess I won't look like much of a genius when I call the 5 game series now though.

I think they still would have made the playoffs in the NW or the Pacific.

It might be as a 6,7 or 8 spot but they would still have made it.

Wow, absolutely not!

Don't compare one of the greatest rivalries in sport that has been around for over 100 years to a little hockey "match-up" that has only been played a few times and about 95 percent of people in Ohio and Tennessee doesn't even know exists.

Sorry but the Preds were a very good team and would be competative in any division. They had tremendous goal tending in Vokun, a young very stong defence and speed up front. They might be lacking in size up front and could be ground down in a physical playoff series, but they are well coached and due to astute management have pleanty of cap room for free agents this summer. I think they will be a competative for several seasons to come.

Dont act like hockey isnt popular in Ohio and Tennessee.

Wait, you know exactly what your talking about. Yeah, a few match-ups seeing how weve been in the same division forever and played 8 times this year. And by OSU/UM, I didnt mean the history of it, I meant the actual rival and hate towards one another.

And, whoever said to put the Pesky's in a different division, you sir, need to quit looking at the team records in the central division. Columbus and Nashville series is either tied or they're up by one. St. Louis is slow yes, and NEVER EVER count out Chicago. They ALWAYS try hard and they ALWAYS make teams work a full 60 minutes for thw two points. So quit thinking the central division is easy.

Dont act like hockey isnt popular in Ohio and Tennessee.Hockey is nothing in the United States, compared to college football. Let's see over 100,000 go to the games, as opposed to maybe 12,000 for hockey. Millions more watch on TV, compared to thousands.

No there isn't. The Predators/Blue Jackets is not a meaningful rivalry. Enough said.

although hockey isn't as popular as football in the us hockey is more popular than you think in ohio....but then again lets see how popular it stays if the team doesn't make the playoffs soon

Seriously, how do you come up with this stuff?

Have you ever seen an internationally televised Preds/BJs game?

Vokun?

Just kidding Mark

This is terrible news for the Preds. Vokoun is a huge part of their success..he would be a candidate for the Hart.

Sad to say..without him..they are almost all but done

I hope he makes a full recovery. My nephew had something similar a few years back and when he was on the blood thinners he had to be so careful because any major knock could have lead to internal haemorrhaging.

Yes, a Bluejacket fan.
And if you have anything to say about Columbus please keep it to yourself, you have no idea how much crap I get for representing the team I do.

Mr. 61 can say what he wants about other teams/players . . .but please don't say anything about CBJ. . . or Nash . . .or Zherdev . . .c'mon:no:

Good luck to Vokoun, I wish you a speedy recovery.
Good luck to the Preds. . .may you win all your games against CBJ in the coming years/decades

Well, Mason hasn't played that poorly

Thru his last 4 games

0.74 GAA, and .969 SP. Plus, a shutout

Hopefully, for the preds, he continues his fine play

It is very unfortunate what happened to Thomas, awful way to end a great season and kills Nashville's playoff hopes probably. It is good Mason gets a chance to start though. It probably wont continue next year.

Predators hoping for September return for Vokoun

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Nashville Predators are optimistic goalie Tomas Vokoun will be ready to play when they open training camp in September.

Vokoun's season was ended last month when he was diagnosed with pelvic thrombophlebitis, a rare blood condition that had caused a multitude of blood clots in his abdomen. Doctors said at the time they didn't know what had caused the clots.

General manager David Poile said Wednesday that Vokoun still is undergoing tests.

"Tomas might've talked to more doctors than you and I have talked to in our lives. He's getting lots of input and he's had lots of tests," Poile said.

Poile said Vokoun has met with two vascular surgeons with more visits likely ahead for more opinions, and he's been on blood thinners for about a month.

"I would hope and think after some of these tests come back we would get a little bit more acceptable timetable," Poile said. "I'm pretty optimistic based on what I've been told that he should be ready to go (in September)."

Vokoun was the Predators' most valuable player this season, winning a career-best 36 games and a playing a big part of a penalty-killing unit that tied for fifth in the NHL despite giving up 533 power plays.

His health could affect how hard the Predators work to sign backup Chris Mason, who set a franchise shutout record of 143 minutes after taking over for Vokoun. He becomes a free agent July 1.

Also, forward David Legwand will have surgery on his left knee next week. He had arthroscopic surgery on the knee in December and missed 32 games but returned and played through the postseason.

Legwand is a restricted free agent whose return from surgery could limit interest in him.

"We'll find a way to keep them if we want them and they want to be here," Poile said. "You're just going to have to get more things done on a year-by-year basis rather than signing a lot of longer-term deals."

The Predators lost to San Jose in five games in the first round of the playoffs.
