Well.. it's almost April, and that means that teams are starting to clinch playoff spots.

www.mc79hockey.com

That's the source I'll be using, I'll add teams that have clinched as we continue on.

Western Conference
Detroit
Dallas
Nashville

Eastern Conference
Ottawa
Carolina*
Buffalo
NY Rangers
Philly

* Has also clinched division.

It'd take a minor miracle for any of Calgary, Colorado or New Jersey to miss. Tampa's getting close to being in the same boat.

Minnesota, Toronto, NYI are all sittting at < 15%.

Ottawa can clinch tonight..

They haven't hit the magic #, but the teams that I bolded would literally have to lose every single remaining game while the other teams went on a run. The other X-Factor is it considers teams playing each other. Say LA/Van playing each other.. either way after that game the Oilers odds increase because somebody isn't getting 2 points. It's run.. 5000? Times, I believe and figures out the % based on the predictable outcomes.

Anyway.

If the Devils continue to play like they have of late, you might have to start believing in miracles...:curse:

:rollover:

Really, it'd take a monumental choke down the stretch for them to miss right now. They'd have to severely underperform their current pace. Obviously it could happen, it's just hard to believe.

And just for fun.. for the next 2-4 weeks, Colorado's lines look like this:

Brunette - Sakic - Hejduk
Richardson - Turgeon - McCormick
Laperierre - McLean - Laaksonen
May - Dowd - Hinote

Could be some real rough times in Colorado... so maybe I should believe in miracles ;).

http://zorak.best.vwh.net/nhl/You have to love the projection of Edmonton finishing seventh and playing No. 2 Dallas again. As fun as that series is, the Stars own them and the Oilers would have absolutely no chance again this year. I would rather see them matched-up against ANY of the other six playoff teams (Detroit included).

From an Oiler POV, lets say we can play anyone in the playoffs; so there's 9 teams to choose from. The teams I'd want to face..

#1. Nashville
#2. LA
#3. Vancouver
#4. Detroit
#5. Colorado
#6. San Jose
#7. Dallas
#8. Calgary
#9. Anahiem

Honestly - I feel we're the best team in the conference (and no, I'm not arguing THAT specific point today in this thread, so don't even try and bait me I'm not responding :) ) but that'd be the order of teams I want to play. Nashville and Detroit both look a LOT better than they are thanks to the Comedy Central division. LA has been ripped to shreds by injuries and have a guy in net with no playoff experience. We've owned Vancouver. Colorado is injury plagued, top heavy, and has huge question marks in net; almost as bad as the Oilers pre-Roloson trade. We've played SJ tight, but Thornton worries me, I Really feel he's going to explode this year in the playoffs.. something about no pressure in SJ and not wearing the C. Dallas isn't that good, but... just ****. Calgary is good at home, and happens to have the best goalie in the league. Just not something I want to run into in the playoffs, not that I don't think we can beat them.. just prefer our chances against others. Finally.. Anahiem is a team that I think could go on a real run here. They've had a ridiculously hard schedule and continually gotten better. They have some very talented players, and they're playing as a team.

Anyway..

We talked about this before. Vokoun can get hot, and will win games all by himself.

I wouldn't want to face a speedy predators team, with an excellent goaltender(who could pull a kipper in the playoffs), and even better faceoff men than your own ;)

BTW, Vancouver vs Edmonton would be a good series. But, we will have to see what happens with these 3 games

So far the mini-series has been good, I hope LA just falls of the planet or something becuase it would be a shame for either of these teams to miss. The ducks have really poured it on as of lat 8-1-2 (i think) in the last 10... they have a tough sedual head of them though, they have to make up a few games so there are a couple back to back games agianst some hard teams for them.

Man they must have really poured it on if they got an extra game out of the whole thing.;)

Some of the races are gonna be right up till the end of the season, should be an exciting April.

What you also have to realize is that any two teams ahead of you that face each other, one of them is guarenteed 2 points that you can't make up. Based on this fact, Phoenix is eliminated and so is Washington.

The Wild Wild West...

Only 3 teams in the entire conference are safe, and 7 are gunning for 5 spots. Those 7 teams...

Anahiem - 86 Pts (12 GR)
Calgary - 86 Pts (11 GR)
Colorado - 86 Pts (10 GR)
Edmonton - 84 Pts (10 GR)
San Jose - 82 Pts (12 GR)
Vancouver - 82 Pts (10 GR)
LA - 81 Pts (11 GR)

The Eastern Conference is more or less locked up, barring a massive choke or the Thrash running the tabble. Some lucky SOB is going to walk into a sweet job in Atlanta.. that team will challenge for the division next year.

Atlanta is about a 16% shot at making the playoffs right now.. the three teams tied at 86 points are all sitting over 88%.

In the WC, things are shaping up a bit, but not much more. The Kings are done and won't make the dance. There's still only 3 teams completely safe in in Detroit, Dallas and Nashville. Everyone's over 90%, Vancouver and Edmonton are both sitting at 75% and SJ slides in around 50%.. the back to back losses against CBJ and then Phoenix absolutely killed that Sharks team. They still have games in hand, but as it goes.. you have to win the games in hand, or they don't matter a whole lot.

It's not really the playoffs in the Western Conference if the Oilers aren't battling just to make it in.:D

The West is so tight, it wouldn't really surprise me if any of those 7 teams PDO mentioned end up missing the playoffs. Nobody in that race can afford to have an off night or two. I think it's going to come down to the very last game in the West before things are decided.

The East is pretty much settled in terms of who will make it. The only thing that remains to be seen is who will play who. The Sens and Canes have their divisions (and the top 2 seeds) locked up. The Rangers and Flyers will be battling for the Atlantic down the stretch. The loser of that race will end up with Buffalo in the first round. The winner of that race will end up with either the Devils, Lightning, or Habs. I have a suspicion the Devils will end up 6th, and play the Rangers (who they've never beaten in the playoffs) in the first round. Just a feeling really.

Damn I love this time of year...

Oilers aren't battling just to make it in any more; SJ, LA and Vancouver are doing their best choke efforts

So, right now here's the EC..

Atlanta is down to an 11.7%, the seeding favourites are..

1. Ottawa
2. Carolina
3. NYR
4. Buffalo
5. Philly
6. NJ
7. TBay
8. Montreal

And in the WC it's a bit tougher to tell...

The 3 at 100% remain the same, and Calgary, Colorado and Anahiem are all over 98% and probably only a win or two away from hitting that nice 100%.

Edmonton is at a healthy 76.8%, SJ at 63.9%, Vancouver at 42.5% and LA is at 21.5%.

That said, these numbers can flux a good 20% with one good night for you and a bad night for the other guys. Predicted standings in the west..

1. Detroit
2. Dallas
3. Calgary
4. Nashville
5. Colorado
6. Anahiem
7. Edmonton
8. San Jose

.. I'd rather finish 8th.

I've said it before: I believe the Stars are the best team in the Western Conference and considering the Oilers' last five trips to the postseason, I would like to see them avoid the Big D at all costs. I would feel a lot better playing the other D, who Edmonton is 2-0-1 against this season.

Any team in the WC could get swept or win the cup and I wouldn't be surprised. I just simply don't want to play Dallas.. I want to build hate with someone new

Take away all the SO wins for Dallas and they don't look all that impressive. You keep going to OT in the playoffs and you're playing with fire.

Well, heading into Friday night.. the 3 eastern teams are all above 95%, Atlanta is sitting at 10.4%. Atlanta really needed to be TBay, and in regulation last night. I think that loss pretty much did them in.

In the West, Anahiem is at 99, Colorado 96 and SJ is over 90. Edmonton's sitting at 80%... and then we have Vancouver at 28% and LA at 5.7%.

Looking more and more like all we have to look for is the standings.

PDO
4-11-06, 5:08 PM
And it continues to tighten up.

5 teams in each conference now at 100%. In the East Atlanta is a 6% shot at making it, with everyone ahead of them over 94%.

In the West Colorado and SJ are both over 97%. Edmonton sits in 8th and at 70% and Vancouver is in 9th with a 33.9%.

An Edmonton win tonight pretty much finishes off the Canucks.

PDO
4-15-06, 3:20 PM
The West has been won :D

Predicted matchups (and trust me, this will continually change..)

1. Detroit vs 8. Edmonton
2. Dallas vs 7. Colorado
3. Calgary vs 6. Anaheim
4. Nashville vs 5. San Jose

In the East, Atlanta is now up to a 30.7% chance. Not sure if Tampa's SO Loss is factored in or not.

1. Ottawa vs 8. Tampa Bay
2. Carolina vs 7. Montreal
3. NYR vs 6. New Jersey
4. Buffalo vs 5. Philadelphia

By Tuesday night we'll know for sure!

With Colorado getting at least a point tonight, Edmonton will remain in the eighth spot and avoid playing Dallas.

Instead they get to play the President's Trophy winning Detroit Red Wings in their Western Conference quarter-final series. The Oilers are 2-1-1 against them this season. Three of the four games went to overtime.

Good for me if these games go to OT, with Detroit being in the eastern timezone, the games in DET will be 7:00 pm start times. However likely for the first two games I'll be watching in Calgary.

Let the playoffs begin! :D
