I'm pretty sure I predicted this in some other thread many moons ago.

Dallas was where the idiot pulled his 50-yard line touchdown celebration.

I wonder how he'll be recieved on the road game in Philly :wicked:

T.O. joins the Cowboys

By JAIME ARON, AP Sports Writer
March 18, 2006

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Terrell Owens has gone from stomping on the Dallas Cowboys' star logo to wearing it on his helmet.

The reviled receiver joined the Cowboys on Saturday, signing a three-year, $25 million contract to play for Jerry Jones and Bill Parcells in what promises to be an interesting combination of strong personalities. The deal includes a $5 million signing bonus, with salaries of $5 million this year, $8 million in 2007 and $7 million in 2008.

"I'm a star among stars now," a smiling Owens said.

There's no questioning his talent -- Owens has consistently put up numbers the Cowboys have lacked since Michael Irvin was in the prime of his career in the mid-1990s.

It's his attitude that prompted the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles to get rid of Owens. His relationship with the Eagles soured only months after he led them to the Super Bowl, finally ending with his release Tuesday.

Owens referred to his past problems as "life-learning experiences."

"I'm going to put those things behind me," Owens said. "They can only make a man stronger, wiser. For me, that's what it's done. I'll be a better teammate, a better person, a better man in life. I'm looking forward to this opportunity. I couldn't be more excited to be here."

Following up a question to Jones about Owens' past, the receiver interjected: "Jerry, I know what's expected of me. I won't let you down."

Jones didn't immediately reveal any contract details, but it was likely to include behavior-related provisions. Owens' blowup with Philadelphia last season even led to new rules regarding punishment being written into the NFL's latest collective bargaining agreement.

"We can both disappoint each other in this agreement," Jones said. "But this is no free lunch to the Dallas Cowboys. We made a commitment to him. That means something."

Agent Drew Rosenhaus said seven teams pursued Owens, "but this was the only team for Terrell."

Jones repeatedly mentioned that Parcells was in favor of adding Owens. The coach and his new star receiver already have spoken by telephone, although Parcells didn't attend the news conference. That's typical, though, because he hasn't attended any for free-agent signings since joining the club three-plus years ago.

"This was not me selling Bill, this was not Bill selling me," Jones said. "This was us taking advantage of getting an outstanding player. ... Bill has coached a lot of players that, quote-unquote, have the perception that a they might not fit in with team chemistry."

Jones, who built a billion-dollar fortune by taking big risks, is willing to take this one because the Cowboys have gone nine years without winning a playoff game.

Part of the gamble is that fans will warm up to Owens, who launched his flamboyant persona in September 2000 when as a member of the 49ers he celebrated each of two touchdown catches at Texas Stadium by running to the team's star logo at midfield. Safety George Teague secured a spot in team lore by decking Owens after the second one.

On a Monday night game in 2004 best remembered for his pregame skit with a "Desperate Housewives" actress, Owens celebrated another score by tapping on a logo in the end zone.

Owens said he and Jones already have discussed his future TD celebrations. With an arm on Jones' back, he smiled wide and said, "I will embrace the star."

Until his behavior limited him to nine games last season, Owens had at least 75 receptions and 1,100 yards receiving in five straight seasons. The last time a Cowboys receiver hit both figures in one season was Irvin in 1997.

But Owens also has aliented teammates, coaches and the front office with the things he says and does.

In Dallas, Owens joins a team coming off a 9-7 season that included a 2-4 finish, keeping them from making the playoffs for a second straight year. The Cowboys seem to need more than a star receiver to get over the hump, but do need a main threat after releasing Keyshawn Johnson on Tuesday.

The team lacks veteran leaders, with captains Dan Campbell and Dat Nguyen already gone, as is La'Roi Glover, another calming influence. Dallas also is in a tough division that includes T.O.-less Philadelphia, the New York Giants hoping to improve as quarterback Eli Manning develops and the Washington Redskins, who have been big spenders in free agency.

The Eagles gave up on Owens only months after he helped them reach the Super Bowl. He demanded a new contract one year into a seven-year, $48.97 million deal, then squabbled with quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Before that, Owens forced his way out of San Francisco with repeated hijinks on the field and through disparaging comments about teammates, including quarterback Jeff Garcia.

Jones is no stranger to unpopular moves.

After winning big gambles in real estate and digging for oil wells, he put it all on the line to buy the Cowboys in 1989. Since then, he's fired Tom Landry, forced out Jimmy Johnson, entrusted a championship club to Barry Switzer and given Deion Sanders a $13 million signing bonus.

Jones felt pretty good about his choices when the Cowboys won their third Super Bowl in a four-year span. But that was 1995; Dallas has won only one playoff game since.

He's lost other big gambles along the way, from sticking with Switzer to hiring Chan Gailey, then Dave Campo as head coaches. He's also risked public scorn by releasing franchise icons Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith.

Irvin's off-field woes are the local precedent for taking on Owens. However, while Irvin may have tarnished the team's image, he was a devoted teammate and fan favorite.

When Irvin was returning from a five-game suspension in 1996, he was asked how he expected fans to treat him. Irvin said he only had to score a touchdown to win them back -- and he was right.

Could it be that easy for Owens?

We shouldn't be surprised that he chose to sign with a division rival.

I think the Cowboys should have signed him to a shorter contract, so in case after 2006, they won't find themselves in the same position as the Eagles.

Dallas is now quite possibly the favourite to come out of the weak NFC.

Somehow I think this will not work out. TO will be on his best behaviour for a while then he will sound off on the "non performance" of some of his teammates and the soap opera will start again.

This man has pretty much betrayed the entire city of Philadelphia with his whole fiasco last season and now he goes out and signs with the most hated team in the entire city. He just hopped, skipped, and jumped over the likes of J.D. Drew, Micheal Irvin, and Kobe Bryant. This piece of crap is in a league all his own now and I can only wait to see the first time he steps into the Linc. He had better hope it doesn't snow the night before his reunion with Philly.

As long as there is a QB that can get him the ball he is virtually un-stopable. On the field of play, there isn't to many that can say they out work TO, even in practice. Even the people who follow this game for a living, who also can't stand him will say so. Now imagine how good he will become IF Parcells can channel all that is TO into the game of football.

If you thought the booing of Michael Irvin was bad in Philly, just imagine the homecoming TO is going to get this year.

There are very few coaches in the NFL who would have a chance at all of controlling Terrell Owens, and Bill Parcells is one of them. If he can't get TO in order (although I don't think that's really possible), then nobody can. It's obviously a risk-reward situation for the Cowboys, but I guess they feel the rewards are greater than the risks.

Personally, I wouldn't take the chance on him, because I think he's nothing but a locker room cancer, but if he can put all his antics aside long enough to perform on the field, the Cowboys may have made a good move. We'll just have to wait and see what happens...

I never said he wasn't a great WR. I know that he is the best in the game at his position. The problem is his off the field issues not on the field. He gives it 100% at every aspect of the game but can't keep his mouth shut about stuff that shouldn't be made public. His workout regiment is respected around the league and so is his play on the field and practice, I won't deny him that. But that has never been his problem and everyone knows it.

The next idiot arrives in town.

Vanderjerk is a Cowboy!
Report: Cowboys sign K Vanderjagt

Mike Vanderjagt

Sports Ticker

3/23/2006 12:58:55 PM

FORT WORTH, Texas (Ticker) - The Dallas Cowboys swooped in on Terrell Owens, who was no longer wanted by the Philadelphia Eagles. They have apparently done the same with Mike Vanderjagt.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram is reporting that the Cowboys have signed Vanderjagt, the most accurate kicker in NFL history, to a three-year contract on Thursday.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Vanderjagt, who turns 36 next week, converted 217-of-248 field-goal attempts (87.5 percent) in his eight-year career with Indianapolis. But Vanderjagt did not come through when the Colts needed him most, missing a 46-yard attempt with 17 seconds left in a 21-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the divisional playoffs in January.

That turned out to be his last kick with the Colts, who made Adam Vinatieri the NFL's highest-paid kicker on Wednesday with a five-year contract that is worth $7.5 million in the first three years.

Vinatieri made every clutch kick for the New England Patriots, helping them become the second team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a four-year span (2001-04). He kicked a 48-yard field goal as time expired to give the Patriots a 20-17 victory over the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI and drilled a 41-yarder with four seconds left in a 32-29 win over Carolina in Super Bowl XXXVIII.

The Cowboys went through three kickers last season and had three misses from 38 yards or less. Last season, Vanderjagt made 23-of-25 field goals.

On Saturday, the Cowboys signed Owens, one of the league's premier receivers, to a three-year contract worth $25 million.

Owens, 32, played just seven games with the Philadelphia Eagles last season before the club deactivated him for conduct detrimental to the team. In his second year with the team, Owens had publicly criticized numerous members of the organization, including quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Despite missing more than half the year, Owens managed 47 catches for 763 yards and six touchdowns.

It's ok, they still have Bledsoe at QB and the O-line hasn't improved:thumb:

But Flozell Adams will be back on the line and Larry Allen will not. Plus, Vanderjagt chokes in the clutch. Which has been one of the bigger problems that Cowboy kickers have had in the Parcells era.

He and Bledsoe will be light fire and gas given their personalities. It wont be a pretty sight. Also Bledsoe's propensity to get sacked will make Owens go nuts IMO.

Its about freakin time we got a field goal kicker!!! Our kickers cost us a playoff spot last season with their consistent missing of 30 yd field goal attempts and that to me(and obviously Jerry Jones) was unacceptable!

I'm dissapointed we lost some good players this season but with the additions the Cowboys have made I think we've gotten better and younger.

Why would we want Randy Moss and his lack of work ethic, the guys freakin lazy.As good as Moss is he is not better than Owens and I'm glad we have Owens over Moss. Both are trouble makers but only one gives it his all on and off the field in practice and thats Owens NOT Moss!

I wouldn't say he's lazy. Injuries have hurt him since he showed up in the Oakland, but the guy is as good a playmaker as anybody in the league. Personally I'd take him over TO any day of the week.

No....smart football fans know that TO, no matter what he does off the field, is the best WR on the field. He doens't take plays off, like Moss. He goes across the middle, unlike Moss. He has the ability to gain monstrous amounts of yards after the catch, unlike Moss.

It isn'et even close anymore between Moss and TO. And with Moss' recent injury troubles, Torry Holt may have passed him. Top 3 in the league now: TO, Harrison, Holt. In that order.

Read this carefully

Maybe at other sites you frequent, it was common practice to berate other posters over the slightest difference of opinion. But that's not how we roll here. Members communicate in a friendly (or at very least civil) atmosphere, even when they disagree.

Before brushing this off, understand the severity of the comment is not at issue... rather it's feeling the need to say something derogatory about others who don't share your ideas.

Not at Hockey Station. Do you understand? I don't expect to explain this again.

Thank you kindly, Mel :)
