RIP. The Habs will retire his #5 before the game tonight should be very emotional.

Darn shame he couldn't make it to tonight.
Bye Bye Boom Boom, RIP.
This is really sad news and you just wished he could have held on until after the ceremony tonight!Time to celebrate a legend,RIP Boom Boom Geoffrion!
Cheers
It is a sad time for "older" hockey fans. Boomer was an exciting player to watch. I was in tears while watching the ceremony, especially when they raised his jersey along with that of his father- in-law, Howie Morenz.
RIP boomer and thatnks for some great hockey.
Team Heaven now has their right wing!! RIP Boom Boom :(

Micheal Faber of Sports Illustrated said this morning on TSN's The Reporters, that only two institutions in Western Society know how to do ceremony well, THe House of Windsor and The Montreal Canadiens.
I'd disagree KB.. this should've been done 20 years ago.

Geoffrion retired in the late 60's and is only having his number retired now and Farber thinks that the Canadiens are so mighty and great. The Leafs are far from doing ceremonies well, I'm going to admit that, but it got me so annoyed when I read that.

Gee I didn't post the comment as a Leaf Bash. I agree that the ceremony was a few years late incoming to say the least, but compared to say the nearly 2 hour Ranger fete of Mark Messier the way the Habs honoured Geoffrion and family was nice and dignified, and the Habs seem to always do those things well.Under the Ballard era there were none of those types of ceremonies or honours really. And before anyone else sayes it the Canucks have not had enough glory and quality to honour.

I didn't interpret that way either. The anger in my post was directed more at Farber than you, I apologize if it came across differently.
