Well I guess I'll start one as there are so few Canucks fans talking in here. I think Dave Nonis did a good job today. He shored up the beleagured Defence without sacrificng Luc Bourdon or Alex Eidler, our two best defence junior prospects. He left the forwards together, although we are still without a #1 center or a really effective face off guy. If Noronen shows the form of 2003/04 then Auld has some capable relief for the stretch. Carney is a horse and if Jovo departs for greener pastures he should be resigned. Wienrich is good at movong the puck but he is a graybeard, I don't know Brown that well but he was depth guy in Jersey and will be here. Going the other way were Mozjis who had really only started to show anything at the NHL level, but I don't think he'll end up with a Norris in the near future. Steve McCarthy had played better of late but not up to his potential. He is another highly touted junior who hasn't panned out. Might be the Blackhawks fault but he was not going to be a top 4 in Vancouver.

Nonis did a great job for the Canucks today, he addressed all areas of concern with what little was available and did it well. Canuck fans should be pleased.

Nice post Mark
Nonis has shown he will do what he can to improve the team
He has also shown that if the core does not win, there will be changes
Carney and Noronen are excellent deals..and really help this team.
Weinrich and Brown are the cherry on top
Good job Nonis

Thanks, as I look at various assesments and comments I like Brown on the blueline, he'll drop the gloves and block shots, has to be an upgrade on Brookbank.

For sure. Brookbank should be cut loose after this season.
On Noronen, its good to see a Finnish netminder back there. Toskala would have been my first choice, but Noronen would have been my second.
Hopefully he plays well, and turns into the goaltender he can be
... sigh.
Vancouver did very well, and made the NW division a helluva lot harder. Each move was very solid, especially Noronen.

I guess Wilson is waiting for the summer to trade Toskala?

Well, I think Nonis was very interested in Toskala..but the price was probably much too high
Noronen is in the Canucks longterm plans..so I dont think they will try and land Toskala the summer
However, I'd expect Edmonton to take a run at Toskala..and most likely land his services. Or even Ottawa for that matter.

I wonder where this leaves Corey Schneider or even Dan Cloutier?
Nonis did an excellent job and maybe now people will lay off him!Like I've said before its now up to the Nazzy-Mo-Bert line to start producing and carrying this team like before.
Cheers

I still give credit to Nonis for doing something at the deadline. On paper they were good moves, and gave the Canucks a very good defence. It just didn't work, the moves failed make up for shortcomings at center and goal scoring. The team still lacks the go for throat instinct. Auld was tired at the end, he played much better than I had anticpated, but Crawford and back goalies:shrug: he just rides his starter like a rented mule, and when the back up goes in he fails to produce due to rust or shaky play in front of him.
If Nonis keeps his job, then a major overhaul will happen, must happen as this core may play exciting hockey during the regular season, but can't get it done when they need to. Rather than make hypothetical trades and roster redesigns here, I'll wait to see what happens before I comment futher.

Noronen should have played some more at the end of the year to give Auld some breathing room. Marty Brodeur is the only goalie who seems to cope with playing every night(when healthy)or practicaly every night.

Kiprusoff 73 GP shoe in for Vezina, Luongo 74 GP .913 SV%, Roloson played 19 straight for the Oilers to lead them into the playoffs with a .905 SV%.
Cough?

Good post
I understand why Crawford didn't play Noronen. The points were crucial, and Noronen was not playing very well.
Nonis acquired a backup with 4 games to his credit..a goaltender who hadn't played in a long time. He should have known that Crawford wouldn't play Noronen.
Don't get me wrong, the trade was good for Vancouver..in terms of next season. But for this season, it wasn't the best deal to make.
I've always liked Weinrich..but for some reason he just didn't play well. Perhaps he was tired, too much pressure, or just not fun to play? I'm not sure..but he was one of the worst defenseman.
Also, I really like Carney..and what he brings to the table. Some games he played very well, but others he was just average(turnovers)..I'm not sure why he didnt perform to his usual standards.
Brown was surprising..but then again he was for depth..and thats about it.
Nonis did what he could to improve the team, but the chemistry didnt work out. Could have he done more, to change the path of the team? I don't think so. This team had many issues before the deadline..issues that will take serious moves to fix
