Irbe obviously.
Irbe obviously.
Is that your prediction or just a gut feeling you have?

It looks like Gerber. Ward will push him next year though. I cant believe Ward never made the World juniors even as a backup to Fleury.
Damn and it looks like Ward played to-night.

Ward was awesome. If he can keep it up, Carolina still has a shot.

Yes Ward had about 15 tough saves to make in Game 3 and made 14. Huet had about 2, made 1 of 2, and let in a softie to boot to single-handedly lose the game for Montreal in that game and turn the series around. They certainly made the right choice to start Huet over Abby, NOT!!!! No team will ever win a playoff series with Huet in goal.

The same Cristobal Huet who has the 4th best Save % in the playoffs (going into tonight's game)?:conspire:

Like I said in Game 3 Huet had about 2 tough saves, Ward had about 15 tough saves, to anybody that saw the game Montreal dominated it, even if the shots were close, and if one says "Ward stole the game" that just means Huet was badly outperformed by a young kid goalie who was backup most of the year. Huet only had to make one save in the 3rd period, couldnt do it, while Ward was making amazing saves all game, same thing in overtime for both. The series changed on that. I knew Montreal had no chance to win the series if they started Huet, and I really thought they would do the smart thing and start Abby but they didnt and now they will lose, something they were always going to do as long as they put Huet in net.

Huet is so much better than Abby it isn't funny.
4-0 Sweep for the Canes with Abby in net.

You obviously did not watch Abby play in the playoffs in 03-04. He lost because Nabakov had a streak of shutouts. He had alot of games letting in no goals until overtime, or only 1 goal.
I would not be at all surprised if Montreal had won the series with Abby in net.
Huet let in two horrable games, the tieing goal in game 3, and the overtime goal in game 6, that cost Montreal the series.

If Abby was better, why wasn't he in net?
2005-06....................GP.W..L..OT.GAA...sv..sv% SO
DAVID AEBISCHER MTL 50 29 17 2 3.09 1324 .899 3
CRISTOBAL HUET .MTL 36 18 11 4 2.20 1008 .929 7
Maybe because he can't handle the New NHL?
IN 03-04 Abby had some good numbers.
03-04 Playoffs DAVID AEBISCHER COL 2.08 .922
Reg. Season.....DAVID AEBISCHER COL 2.09 .924
His Playoff numbers are almost identicle to his regular season numbers.
05-06 DAVID AEBISCHER MTL 3.09 .899
You think 3.09GAA and a .899sv% would win a playoff series when Huet put up a 2.33GAA and a .929sv% and lost?
Huet's numbers you will notice are almost identicle to his regular season stats aswell.

Why are we discussing MONTREAL's goalies in the Carolina forum?

Right. It is this guy we should be talking about.
CAM WARD CAR 1.54 GAA .940sv%
This kid is getting some valuable experience right now. It seems like it is the changing of the guard this year. Lots of young goalies getting their first shot at glory.
Apparently his idol was Broduer. Kid's got taste anyway. ;)

And now he gets to face him in the playoffs...
To be honest, Ward is the thing that scares me the most about this series. Back in 2002, the Canes started a relatively unexperienced playoff goalie, Kevin Weekes, against the Devils, and he responded by knocking them out in the first round. I hope it's not a repeat of history.:slant:

Yes sometimes these young guys don't seem to feel the pressure the way the older players do. Carolina has some wicked firepower to back him up aswell. That's OK though. NJ is set. I have no worries. NJ has two great scoring lines when Elias is playing with Langenbrunner, a true shut-down line with Madden, and ofcourse Broduer between the pipes.
My only concern is Colin White. He pulled agroin or something against NYR didn't he?
Is he better yet?
NJ will need the defense to be at the top of it's game to contain the firepower of the 'Canes.

Cam Ward did play well vs Montreal but Montreal made him look game in games 4, 5, and 6 especialy. Game 3, and the second half of game 2 were the only games he faced so many tough shots. In Games 4, 5, and 6 most of their shots were outside the perimetre, there were very few very dangerous shots at all. Montreal without Saku Koivu could not field two true offensive lines anymore, and the one offensive line they had tried to overplay after he was out. Lets see how he stands up against NJ who has 2, and to some extent even 3, offensive lines who will give him more dangerous shots than the moderate shots Montreal gave him to face in the last 3 games.
