The All-Star Elimination will consist of 16 players:
3 D-men
2 Goalies
2 Centers
2 LW
2 RW
5 Wild Card
The seeding was determined by draw with the winners of each position guaranteed to be getting one of the top 5 spots. The 5 Wild Card selections are the bottom 5 seedings, and will face one of the Positional winners first round.
The pairings will look like this:
--------------
Goalie #1
Wild Card #5
---------------
D-man #1
Wild Card #4
---------------
RW #1
Wild Card #3
----------------
LW #1
Wild Card #2
---------------
Center #1
Wild Card #1
---------------
RW #2
D-man #3
---------------
D-man #2
LW #2
---------------
D-man #2
Goalie #2
--------------
The only position already known is D-man #3(Phaneuf), the rest are yet to be decided. The reason I am posting this now it to alert everyone to the Wild Card Round where there will be 5 players brought back.
Wild Card Round:
Pick the top 8 players that have either been eliminated or were not included, in the eliminations. The top 5 vote getters will be entered into the All-Star Elimination.
Please Do Not Post Wild Card Selections Yet.
There are still a number of eliminations to be completed. Once they are done the Wild Card Round will begin.
I am glad that you are enjoying this guys.:thumb:

We know enough now to go ahead and be able to choose the five Wild Card players to re-enter the All-Star Elimination.
Who is eligible to be a Wild Card Player?
Basically anyone, whether they were in the first round of Eliminations or not.
So pick 8 players you would like to see re-entered into the Elimination. The top 5 most selected players will fill the Wild Card spots in the All-Star Elim.
Also for the All-Star Elimination, let's vote on the length of the contract:
2 years
3 years
4 years
The Players that WILL be going to the All-Star Elim are:
Luongo
Brodeur
Chara
Alfredsson
Ovechkin
Crosby
Jagr
Niedermayer
Thornton
Kovalchuk
Phaneuf
So if there is someone not on this list you want to see in the All-Star Elimination.... Just pick him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was pointed out earlier that I missed Elias in the LW Elim. Well I must have Left Wing Brain Lock, because there was two other top quality LW's that got missed. Anyway all three are part of my Wild Card list.

I'll take another crack at it this aft..
You gotta pick 8 players that didn't make it. (see post #2 for the players that did make it)
Then choose the contract length to consider when making your picks.

So far there is no concensus pick. Interesting. Liam and Amo left off Spezza and MD didn't take Staal.(although that could change)(It did)
There is one player I am surprised no one has taken. I almost put him on my list. I made sure the wording of the rules allowed for his entry. I thought for sure one of you guys would have put him in. I am not saying who, because I don't want to start a stampede of post editting. Someone will eventually post him and everyone will go "Oh, right, I forgot about him." :D
I have already given too many hints as to who it is. :conspire:
MadDevil: Unless that is Scott Thornton you are voting for, you may want to edit your list. Joe moved on with Crosby. :D
Keep posting your lists. It ain't over yet. :o
There have been 23 different players selected so far. Quite a variety. :thumb:
Edit: The voting in the goalteder Elim. is still going on to decide between Brodeur and Luongo and their eventual seeding in the AS Elim.
Contract Length: 3 Years
LW:
Frolov (I swear, he'll be the next Hossa)
Gagne
C:
Spezza
Staal
RW:
Hossa
Gaborik
D:
Pitkanen
Lidstrom
* I was really surprised Havlat wasn't included among RW'ers. Was he excluded due to injury perhaps? Another Sen that I feel should have been in the original polling was Volchenkov. Even Meszaros could make a strong case on D. None would've finished all that high though so it's a moot point.
charlio lemieux

It was just the top 24 scorers for the forward positions, so due to his injury Havlat didn't make it. If I were to do this again I would use Points per Game instead.
I dropped Keith Tkachuk from my 8, and went w/ Gagne instead.
I did the same with Cheechoo, Marleau is the replacement.
I dropped Keith Tkachuk from my 8, and went w/ Gagne instead.
I see you also put Morrow on your list. I think we're the only two Morrow fans on this site.
And by the way, ManU, I think Niedermayer already moved on.;)
4 Years...

Andy.. Nieds is already in. And Charlio.. It's i before e except after c! ;)

Guilty as charged
I am a big fan of Morrow's. He brings a little bit of everything to his game... He's not high profile, but he's my kind of player. Erik Cole is of a similar mold, but Morrow is better.
I'd take Morrow on my team over a lot of higher scoring finesse players.
Pronger
Spezza
Hemsky
Staal
Redden
Gagne
Nash
Hossa
Contract: 3 years.
Andy.. Nieds is already in.

Hmmmmm....... I should have noticed that. I've gone on record as thinking him the best NHL d-man and voted for him every time. I guess I just can't stop backing the guy! I'll sub Lidstrom for him on my list, followed closely by Pronger and then Redden.
Good catch Mad Devil and PDO! :)

Right! Taken care of.
Well I have added up the Wild Card selections. Ofcourse there is another tie.
But instead of doing another Tie Break round, I'm just going to leave it until morning. Maybe someone will post a list that breaks the tie.
I made a change in one of my selections. But it doesn't affect the outcome.

So Malkin is the guy you were surprised that nobody took?
Well to me, he's unproven.
So Malkin is the guy you were surprised that nobody took?
Well to me, he's unproven.
Should Malkin even be a choice? I mean, I know he was drafted by the Penguins, but he hasn't even played an NHL game yet. It's kind of hard to have him in an elimination with other NHL players if he's never played against them (other than the Olympics).
I mean, I could pick Ari Ahonen or Nicklas Bergfors with that same logic...
charlio lemieux
3-02-06, 1:44 PM
The selection was left open to "basically anybody". I thought he was impressive in the Olympics. Plus, with Ovechkin and Crosby he should fit right in. Not sure if Ahonen or Bergfors are in the same class as Malkin, but ya, you could have picked them.
Anyway, since no one else posted a list we are stuck with a 3-way tie for the 5th and final Wild Card spot.
Results For the Wild Card Selection:
#1 - Staal 10
#2 - Spezza 7
#3 - Elias 6
#4 - Iginla 6
#5 - Kiprusoff, Hossa, Gagne 5
So the final entry into the All-Star Elimination is still up for grabs.
The Contract Length Results:
4 years - 5
3 years - 4
2 years - 1
So for the All-Star Elim. the contract length in question will be 4 years.

Charlio, excuse me if you've covered this, but why is contract length important ?
charlio lemieux
3-02-06, 2:16 PM
It adds age into the equation.
In the D-man Elim. atleast one person said, that right now they would take Niedermayer but over 4 years Chara was his choice.
If the length is 2 years, then age isn't really that important. Just picking the best player right now, would likely work against the rookies.
So by setting a contract length it removes a variable from the decision making process.
I voted for a 2 year contract, in hopes Lidstrom would get a WC spot. At 4 years, his age really works against him.
Did that clear things up, or make them worse? :thumb:

You have to lose twice to be finshed.
kinda drunk, excuse the typing.
Just reseed for the "loser" bracket. Once you lose twice, you're out.. so the "winner" has to lose twice to the "winner" of the loser bracket. Second bracket would be..

Pit them against each other. Once they lose, you're down to 4.. but you add the 4 losers from the winner bracket, continue on, etc. When I'm a bit more sober I can explain more if needed ;). Either way, you're in until you lose twice.

It's a freakin' energizer bunny unto itself! It keeps going and going and going.....:D
It was suggested to make it a double elim round. So that has added two or three rounds. It made for some good match-ups.

Wow what an impressive group of young stars.
Phaneuf makes it to the final four after qualifying as the 3rd defenseman. Staal makes it after being a Wild Card. Ovechkin and Crosby both won their positional elim.
Crosby has gone the entire elim to this point without losing a single match. He has already beaten all three remaining contenders in individual matches. I think it would be fair to declare Crosby the Winner of the Elim. According to this he is the most desirable player in the NHL to sign to a 4 year deal.
So the battle is really for second place.
Ozolinsh just got trade to the Rangers.
Final round Elim:
Which one would you sign to a 4 year deal?

Alexander Ovechkin
Dion Phaneuf
Eric Staal

Ovechkin
