Sharks sign Toskala to contract extension
TSN.ca Staff

The San Jose Sharks have signed goaltender Vesa Toskala to a two year contract extension worth $1.375 million.

He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Toskala was the Sharks' fourth choice, 90th overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. In 2003-04, Toskala backed up Evgeni Nabokov, seeing action in 28 games and finishing the season with a 12-8-4 record.

He is 8-5 this season with a 3.12 goals-against average and .883 save percentage.

More to follow.

That has to be insurance that he won't bolt for free agency if he gets traded.
It makes him worth a lot more because now he isn't just a rental.
Muckler had better be paying attention here is chance to solidify Ottawa's goaltending situation for this year and the next two.

There's no way they plan on paying 2 goals a combined what.. $7,000,000 / year? They signed him solely to up his value in hopes of dealing him.

Totally agree

BTW, they played Toskala again last night. It seems like they are showcasing his talent

Thru the last 5 games, 4-0-1 2.16 GAA, and .929 SP

He's a very good backup/potential starter..and looks to have regained his confidence

Well he was playing a depleted Detroit lineup as most of their Swedish Olympians were in Anaheim and not San Jose. However I have long wanted to Toskala in a Vancouver uniform, as Auld has played well but he needs some relief.
