When I first saw this headline I let out a big

*GULP*

TURIN, Italy - It was a bummer of a night all around for the Czech Republic, who not only lost a key game against Finland, 4-2, to drop to 1-2 in the tournament, but also lost star forward Jaromir Jagr of the New York Rangers, who suffered a cut on his forehead after being checked into the boards by Finland's Jarkko Ruutu.

Jagr was digging for a loose puck along the boards when Ruutu came cross-ice and slammed into him. Jagr lay face down for several minutes before being helped to the locker room with 7:03 gone in the second period. His status for Sunday's game against Italy was unknown late Saturday night.

Ruutu was given a game misconduct for the hit.

Thanks god it wasn't something that will keep him sidelined.

I hope the Czechs get eliminated soon. Half the guys in my sig are over there risking injury. :curse:

Rutuu's hit was vicious and Jagr hasn't played so far to-day. I hope they are just resting him.

Ruutu is pathetic and guys like him are the exact reason that fighting shouldn't be discouraged and the instigator rule needs to be scraped. I'd love to see him try that knowing full well that the second he did it he'd get the living **** beaten out of him.

Question of the Day?

To the Ownership of the NY Rangers: Do you support NHL players playing in the Olympics? :D

Same question to the ownership of : Colorado, New Jersey and Ottawa. Do you like it?

It looks like he is doing his job well :thumb:

Ruutu has really improved his game. He is a premier agitator..someone to draw penalties.

Sure, people may hate him..but thats good. As I said, it means he is doing his job

An agitator does a good job when he draws penalties by getting under the opponents skin.

Nailing a guy from behind into the boards, leaving him face down in a puddle of blood, and earning a game misconduct for your cheap shot is not doing your job well.

Is Ruutu the one with the perma-smile who plays for NYR?
Or no that's Niimenen (sp?) right?

Nieminen (sp?) plays for NY. He's an agitator too.

I didn't like to see that happen.

However, was it a dirty hit..or was he going to hit Jagr anyway, and it was an unfortunate result?

I didn't see it, but from all accounts I read it was a dirty hit - an elbow to the head which caused stitches in Jagr's forehead and above his left ear. Ruutu then got tossed from the game.

What's done is done. I have no reason to make any more of it than what's been said... but on the other hand I have no reason to believe Ruutu cracked Jagr in the head by mistake either.

Like I said I'm just glad it wasn't something like a knee that would put him on the shelf. The Rangers have 9 guys over there (none for the US or Canada), I'll be happy when their teams get eliminated quite honestly.
