Is Raycroft now #3 on the depth chart behind both Thomas and Toivinen? Is he just going to stick around and take that big salary while doing nothing, or are they going to wait until a better time to trade him?

Last thing I read was a deal to Chicago, with Samsonov for some guys I can't remember.
Who knows how reliable that was.

Well I think Raycroft would like to be a starter somebody else. I cant believe everybody is giving up on this guy. Sophomore slumps are common, this guy was rookie of the year last year and has alot of potential.
It is clear Boston has no plans for him now or in the future though.

It's not that their just giving up on him. The play of Toivonen has really played a big part in making Raycroft expendable. Things only got worse when Thomas stepped in and played great.
Normally he would be given more of an opportunity but, you can't justify playing a slumping Raycroft when Toivonen is playing great. Same thing is happening in Montreal and hopefully soon in Toronto.
Raycroft should have a bright future ahead, but keep in mind, the league has had tons of goalies who were one year wonders.
Oilers were interested..
MOC asked for Schremp and Torres.
What a great GM ;).

Maybe Schremp and Torres if Raycroft had two solid years after his Calder Trophy.
But not with only one NHL season.
So the price is too high to boot, that should keep him a Bruin for longer.

If he is demoted to the #3 goalie behind two rookies they are giving up on him. It does not matter how well the people who filled in while he injured had done, if they still had faith in him they would give him some games coming back to show something and they havent. So they have already decided he is worthless to them, and that is fine if they feel that way, but then they should trade him as quickly as they can since right now they are paying him a big salary per 2-week cheque while doing absolutely nothing. They cant send him to the minors, somebody will take him on waivers and they will pay half his salary.
I could see him being a one-year wonder, it is too early to tell. Maybe there isnt a team that would want him as a starter now that he has been demoted to #3 on his own team behind two rookie goalies though.

Well it looks like they are playing Raycroft some to make him more appealing as trade bait as the deadline nears. Good idea.
Who knows what will happen in the off-season with him. If he's still in Boston, he's going to have competition from not only Timmy Thomas and Hannu Toivonen but also from whoever wins the Be A Bruin (http://www.beabruin.com) contest this fall.
Seriously, the Bs have opened up to the public a spot for six players (a goalie, two D, and three forwards) at the B's training camp this fall and are filming the process, which will be aired on NESN this fall.
It's sort of like the CBC's Making the Cut series. Unless you have a satellite dish or get NESN in the Boston area, youi probably won't see it, though.

Raycroft just got traded to the Leafs for unproven prospect Tuuka Rask (G).
