Owen Nolan is supposed to be coming. If he is healthy will he be an impact player?
If he is an impact player will it be enough for the Sharks to make a serious run at the cup?
What I think: (as if you care) :D
He won't be a high impact player like Kovalchuk or Forsberg by any means. He should produce better than Tucker while giving similar grit. He would be a nice fit with Marleau on the second line.
Even with a healthy Nolan they still need a true PowerPlay quarterback on the point. They have excellent depth, so they can afford a good, young, NHL ready defenseman in return for a trade.

They can have Ed Jovanoski for Vesa Toskala, I'll have Nonis call Wilson:laughing: On the original deal I think McAuley would have look good in a Leaf uniform for many seasons.

Thats a big overpayment on the Canucks part
The way Toskala is playing, a 2nd round pick would get the deal done. I would really like to see him on the Canucks.
In Nolans first game with the Leafs he scored 2 goals!!! It all went downhill from there ;)
In all honesty its been almost 2 years since he has played NHL caliber hockey, it will take at least until the start of the playoffs to get his game legs back. IMO, the sharks need a player that can help them now to get in the playoffs, not a player that can help them IN the playoffs. If they had a playoff spot locked and loaded then I say go for it.

What the Sharks need to get into the playoffs is a PP quarterback on the point. Right now this year, there is no one better than McCabe.
The Sharks have some young defensive defensmen that are currently on the verge of making the team, and probably would already be playing on 20 other teams. McCabe should be worth two of them. One guy, Murray, has gone over 20 games with no points, but he hits like a Mack truck. I don't see them moving him as he has become a fan and team favorite. Rob Davidson and Josh Georges are the other two that have caught my eye. You read their player bio and it is like a list of hits and blocked shots, just what Toronto needs. San Jose does have the Cap Room to re-sign McCabe for the 5 or so million he will be asking, and still give Cheechoo his raise.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Sharks walk away from Nabokov and his big contract, in the summer, re-sign Toskala and bring up Schaefer. Giving Toskala a 150% raise would still be less than 1/2 of what Nabokov's salary is this year. Schaefer really does deserve a shot at the #1 spot. His stats, although limited, simply blow Nabokov's and Toskala's out of the water.
I hope they pick someone up and get into the playoffs. Nolan may take a while, as was mentioned, to really get into the New NHL and will probably cost San Jose a few games by taking a bunch of the New NHL Penalties. I guess the safest thing to do is to start him on the 4th line and let him move up as his play warrants it. I wonder what his contract will be like.
