To Edmonton- Dick Tarnstrom

:curse:
How can they afford these guys?
Good news is they still dont have a goalie ;)
Whooooooo
Pronger - Bergeron
Staios - Smith
Spacek - Tarnstrom
Greene
Looks like the best defense in the league to me!

I wouldn't play Spacek and Tarnstrom together.. :thumb:
On a good team, Tarnstrom will be like Zidlicky...
Someone mentioned that one of these two could later be traded for a goaltender

Tarnstrom and Spacek on the same pairing is just asking for trouble, I agree. What goaltender?

Well, many teams that have the goalie depth..are looking for defenseman
So, now that the Oilers have that depth..its just a matter of time.

Not that I propose playing Spacek and Tarnstrom together, but Spacek was +8 in a sea of minuses in Chicago.

Roloson? He's available, but his record this season isn't great. I don't think Fernandez is available. Giguere could be available, but I don't know how Edmonton could afford him or how they'll woo Burke into getting him.
Hmmm...I don't know how Tarnstrom is going to help defensively, but he could be a very good addition to the PP. Spacek is a decent enough defenseman, and is better than Cross or Ulanov, so that's a plus. Kinda surprised they haven't gone after a goalie yet, but I suppose they're waiting until the deadline rolls around.

Dude have you not seen how Lalime has done out of Ottawa?
If Sens can make him look good then they keep the honors
=]
This is good for the Oil but I still hope they get some goaltending.

I like Calgary's corps better too, to stir things a bit more with that Alberta rivary. Definate upgrade for Edmonton, but both players are on the soft side and more offensively oriented. Regardless, very good day at the office for Lowe.
Oilers fans should perhaps dim their enthuaism with Tarnstorm in particular. He has but 10 points and Pittsburgh was all too pleased to take this deal. Spacek is easily the better of the two, and as Darryl pointed out, a +8 on a terrible Chicago team.
Actually meant to say in the Western Confrence; but that's a moot point..
Spacek is a #4 defenseman in this league IMO, and like Daryl said was a +8 on that Chicago team.
I really don't think adding Tarnstrom is a big deal, but for a #6 who'll QB the 2nd PP unit he's definetly not a bad addition.
Lots of speculation that Staios will be the center-piece of a goalie deal in the near future.
Our best combination for defense for the time being is most likely..
Pronger - Bergeron
Smith - Spacek
Staios - Tarnstrom

Nashville may have #2 overall after Ottawa. No one as good as Chara or Redden, but they have an excellent top 5 plus 3 or 4 other guys who would be playing on almost any other team.
Detroit, Boston, Philly, Tampa Bay, Colorado also all have good deep D-lines that can compare to Edmontons new and improved lineup. But it is definately an improvement along the right lines. Good one for Lowe.
Best part of this:
With pro-rated salaries, the Oilers only added $900k and change to their payroll.
Pat Laforge is a tease.
"Great day.. stay tuned."
And Kevin Lowe...
Stauffer - "Are you stocking up for a goalie trade?"
Lowe - "I won't say yes or no, draw from that whatever you like."
On Calgary D versus Edmonton D...
If Kipper isn't a Flame, we're not having this argument. The guy flatout makes everyone on his team look better statisitcally because he, right now, is the best goalie in the NHL.
Really looks like Staios is about to be dealt here, rumors all over the place, mostly surrounding Biron. In a perfect world we keep Morrison, trade Jussi and waive Conklin.
We'll have to wait and see though..

PDO, I agree "the Kipper" makes Calgary D look very good, but the best goalie in the league ?
We have this fellow in Ottawa, who is pretty darn good right now.
Take a look at Hasek (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/statistics)
Also, good move for the Oil.
I especially like Spacek.

That PLUS/MINUS stat is funny
IMO both Czech netminders are the best in the league so far this year. Ottawa arguably has the best defensive core helping Hasek out but the core in general has had some pretty bad games that Hasek bailed them out of

Kipper the best goaltender in the NHL? IMO, that title belongs to Manny Fernandez at the moment.

I like staios he plays well on this team, espcially lately he seems to have alot of confidence. I would like to see a new goalie I personally like Marc-Andre Fleury but the chances of that happening are prolly slim, besides he doenst have any playoff experince either.
There was talk about trading TY after he gets a few wins under his belt to help is image.

Fernandez is playing well, and doing so on a trap team.
He still has a lot to prove. Can he play for a team, that allows a lot of shots..and isn't a cult like the Wild? :D

Hasek is an excellent goalie.
However, he isn't getting younger. I'd rather have Vokoun. His numbers aren't as great as those of Hasek. But, the man is a machine..and only entering his prime.
