During the 2nd intermission, said the Oilers will most likely have acquired a defenseman sometime tomorrow afternoon...

Tarnstrom, Spacek and Jackman were the three names he mentioned, although I think he was referring to Ric Jackman.

Personally.. please be Spacek. That'd be a godsend.

An offensive defenseman is an equally big need. Not to mention it gets Ulanov off the ice, permanently... that alone should take our GAA down by 1 :slant:

There are not many goalies available who are an improvement over what we have. Not saying what the Oilers have is good; there's just not mcuh available for improvements at this time..

That's what the Canucks have been saying for years, and look where they are now.:D

The Oilers don't really have a choice, except to go for it this year. Next year they will be shelling out big bucks to keep some of their best young players. On the flip side how much longer can Pronger, Smyth, and the other key verterns keep playing at the level they are at?
The window for a serious cup run is narrow and the Oilers are in a unique position where they have their best young tallent for about 1/3 - 1/4 of what they will cost next year.

Two solid, #4-5 D-men, a scoring right winger, depth upgrade for the 4th line and a #1 goalie. Edmonton gets all this and they should be a cup favorite.
Just a #1 goalie and a solid #4 d-man would make them cup contenders.
I just don't like the idea of them being only one injury away to Hemsky, to having Dvorak or possibly Rita, as a #1 right winger. Or an injury to a defenseman puts Cross or Ulanov on the ice.

They need to do something soon if they even want to stay in the playoffs. Same goes for Vancouver. Minny and San Jose are coming fast.
Still no word on the trade. 8 or so more hours 'til the 24hrs have passed.
