View Full Version : Crede demeaned by Chicago White Sox!

Crede's new contract with the Chicago White Sox is pathetic. He is definitely underpayed and underappreciated by them. He should have been offered atleast 3 million next year, and a multi-year deal but was not. I dont know why he and his agent didnt go to the salary abertration. Not only that they have brought in Rob Mackowiak to replace him as the starting 3rd baseman, and next year will probably demote him to the minor leagues when Josh Fields comes up unless the salary arbirtrator forces them to pay him a major league salary until his rights are up. It is sad his rights are owned by them another few years. The way they treat him is demeaning and disgusting.

Joe Crede isn't very good. His .303 OBP and .756 OPS are really what's pathetic. He did hit 22 homers last year, but that isn't anything special coming for a corner infielder. Mackowiak was a depth signing. I doubt he'll start. He'll get some starts at third, and he'll also play some outfield too, with the youngster Brian Anderson taking over in center. Also, you do realize Crede will turn 28 in April, so there is no way he could go down to the minors unless he passed through waivers (which is unlikely). Besides, if this Fields looks more promising than Crede then why shouldn't the Sox use him at third place and ship Crede out. Managements job is to put the best possible team on the field. Crede isn't anything special, and I'm sure he's happy with his contract.

When evaluating his 22 homers and 61 RBIs one has to remember he gets only 430 at bats. So that is similar to somebody who hits 30 homers and 80 RBIs with 580 at bats. If they want him to do more maybe they should give him more at bats. I agree his batting percentage and slugging percentage are low, I believe they will be alot better this year though. I also hugely doubt Fields will be better if they bring him up. Plus his defensive stats were among the best in the league for 3rd baseman.

I'm not sure why anybody should expect a lot more from Crede. Last season, he matched his career average in BA, OPB, and slightly exceeded his career SLG. Frankly, if I were the Sox, I'd be loathe to offer too much money to a guy that doesn't take a walk, and has such a terrible On-Base Percentage. In his three full seasons, he's been about 10% below average with the bat. I just don't see a reason to pay him much money.
He did have a good year with the glove, though.
