Who are some of your favorite NHL players, for their OFF-ICE achievements.

2 guys that jump out at me are Adam Graves and Shjon Podein. Friends and both King Clancy trophy winners. Really giving guys.

Another one who comes to mind is Yzerman. He invites young guys on the team who have no family in the area, to eat Thanksgiving with his family. That's a real classy and thoughtful gesture.

Messier... another charitable man, bought Darren Landon a suit with his own money when he was called up by the Rangers, and left it in his locker. Yeah Messier is loaded... but no one forced him to buy Langdon a suit. He reaches out to young players coming up.

The last guy... I know most of you hate because he's over paid but Bobby Holik .

1) he and Scatchard (islanders) had a wicked collision into the boards which Scatchard got the worst of big time. Holik helped him off the ice. How often do you see that. Especially between the isles and rags.

2) When Roenick got his faced bashed in (yet again) by a Boris Mironov slapshot in the spring of 04, Holik went straight from the game to visit JR in the hospital.

decent man.

Who are some of the good guys you admire and why?

Although he is not popular in many circles now (hello gordfish) Trevor Linden started a tradition at GM Place and Markus Naslund has contiued it called the Captains Club. A couple of times a year they foot the bill for a Suite at GM Place , for Kids from the BC Children's Hospital. Markus hangs with the Kids before and after thegame treats them to a meal and snacks and brings some of the other guys up to meet the kids. The Canuck organization are big supporters of Children's Health and literacy out here. The coahing staff has been touring the province putiing on coaching clinincs for minor hockey coachs and administrators.

I believe Curtis Joseph is still active with some Children's charities in Southern Ontario.

From what I hear many Senators players do much the same.

Barry Trotz the Predators coach dontates $500 for every Preds win to the United Way in Nashville.

Wade Redden
Since joining the Ottawa Senators, Wade Redden has offered the use of his personal suite at the Corel Centre to patients and their families for all Senators home games. ?Wade?s World? has given CHEO(Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario) patients an opportunity to enjoy the excitement and thrill of hockey first-hand. Watching the game from the suite, complete with Nintendo games, refreshments, personal attendants and receiving a souvenir t-shirt, has thrilled thousands of children by fulfilling lifelong dreams and creating many lasting memories.

CUJO as much as I hate the Leafs and Wings, Cujo is an amazing person when it comes to donating his time.
One who will not be recognised by most is Kirk Muller, he does a lot for Kingston. His contribution to Feb Fest, getting a bunch of current and old NHL players together to play in the public tournament was fantastic. With his connections he provided this city with a great day.

If you talk to servers, hotel workers and such in cities that have many major sports franchises, they'll ususally say that as a group hockey players are the nicest most easy going of big time athletes. Very few prima donnas with an entourage and attitudes.

I would have to agree with Shjon Podein and my next choice would be Joe Sakic, or as I like to say cikas(kickass) They both do so much for the community. Joe feeds all the homeless every holiday....He pays, and serves everyone along with his whole family and other players....Shjon goes above and beyond in all manner of charities.....Both these players have hearts of gold and personalities to match...They put others before themselves, and that is a true test of compassion..... :toast:
