Kings-Canucks Preview

GAME: Los Angeles Kings (20-13-1) at Vancouver Canucks (20-9-3).

TIME: Monday, 10 p.m. EST.

The Vancouver Canucks aren't used to losing at home.

Coming off their second loss of the season at GM Place, the place Canucks try to improve their league-best home record when they host the Los Angeles Kings.

Vancouver's 13 home wins are the most in the Western Conference and ties them with the Ottawa Senators for the league lead.

The Canucks started a season-high six-game homestand with a 5-4 overtime loss Saturday to the Edmonton Oiler, snapping a six-game home winning streak.

Todd Bertuzzi had two goals and Anson Carter scored his 11th goal of the season, but the Canucks were outshot 16-7 in the third period and overtime.

Bertuzzi was upset with a penalty-kill unit that allowed three power-play goals after giving up just three in the previous six games.

"It's just frustrating that we didn't get rewarded for the effort we gave 5-on-5," Bertuzzi said. "We worked pretty hard but had some breakdowns on the specialty teams that just shouldn't happen."

Bertuzzi has three goals and five points during a four-game points streak. He has six goals and 21 points in 28 games against Los Angeles in his career.

Goaltender Maxime Ouellet played his first game for the Canucks and made 32 saves. Ouellet became the fourth goalie used by Vancouver this year, joining Robert McVicar, Alex Auld and starter Dan Cloutier, out for at least the rest of the regular season with a torn knee ligament.

The Kings are looking to win three games for the first time since Nov. 17-22 - a stretch that began with a win over the Canucks.

Craig Conroy snapped a 13-game goal drought and had two assists, and Pavol Demitra and Joe Corvo also scored in Los Angeles' 4-1 win Saturday over the Phoenix Coyotes.

Demitra, who added an assist to increase his team-leading point total to 41, has 13 goals and 33 points in 26 games against the Canucks in his career.

Mathieu Garon had 25 saves and won his third straight decision. He has allowed three goals or less in each of his last 10 starts.

"You can have all the systems and tactics in place, but the bottom line is your goalie needs to play good every night for you to have a chance to win in this league - and Mathieu played well for us," Kings coach Andy Murray said. "We feel better about our game. We've had better intensity overall."

The Kings are just 1-5-1 in their last seven games against the Canucks in Vancouver.

STANDINGS: Kings - 41 points, 2nd place, 2 PB, Pacific Division. Canucks - 43 points, 1st place, Northwest Division.

Time for the Canucks to start another winning streak. Special teams and faceoffs need to improve a lot.

Well, I think the Canucks will win 4-2

After the last effort, they will be hungry for the win

Expect a better game. Garon is hot, so they will have to be very good to win

What is with that Bieksa, looks like he's in a damn figure skating competition out there, he's everywhere but where he should be.

I wish Jovo had connected with just one of those haymakers and sent the chicken Apery the way of Adam Deadmarsh. How was that not an instigator anyway?

Looks to be another penalty parade game.

Oh man got a glimpse of the Sedins with Naslund, they looked great together!

Was Crow paying attention?

Another loss, but another point.

The Canucks started out well, but again blew a 2 goal lead.

Garon played very well for the Kings, especially in the 3rd period, and the shootout.

Bieksa wasn't impressive in his limited play, and Salo was again very quiet. But perhaps thats a good thing? Depends on who you ask

Auld was solid, and went head to head with Garon in terms of play.

Morrison actually won some faceoffs, but still didn't generate a whole lot. Bertuzzi looked like he was trying to do too much, and wasn't very effective. It seemed again that Naslund was doing all the work on that line.

The twins and Carter had another solid outing. Dominant.

Overall a pretty dull game. Sure, you had goals..but the flow was really taken out of it until the late 3rd period.

Canucks have to wake up, and smell the coffee.

I saw a high-lite of Jovanoski pounding that snot Avery.
I only saw a couple of seconds but it looked like Avery is finally getting the beatings he deserves.

More to come, I hope.

Hopefully Laraque takes him out when the Kings drop by Rexall Place tomorrow.

Say what you want about Avery and I have, I think like most of you, beat the SOB down as many times as possible. That being said who wouldn't want this guy on their team? He is on pace to a 40-50 point season and is obviosly taking the preasure off Conroy, Frolov and Demetria. As much as I like Tie Domi, I think Avery would be a better choice in the new NHL.

Similar to Marchement, though he wasn't known to be a slime bag he did play it dirty but a player that was coveted by most teams.

Jovo wasn't THAT bad tonight

I don't know what game you were watching, but in the one I watched he hardly came near the puck all night without screwing something up.

Canucks lost again. Don't want to talk about the effort. Should have won, team slacked off and I'm glad they got beat because they're playing like they deserve to win even if they suck. They better smarten up or I'm coming down to Vancouver to kick some Canucks' ass. :curse: :talkhand:

Yeah, they need a kick in the ass

They always talk about how "its not acceptable"..or " we should have won"..but this is all cheap talk

Just win the damn games

It's actually not about winning the games right now imo, it's about playing well. They are winning games, their record is far better than their performances and I think that's going to bite them in the ass bigtime if they keep winning as much as they have as they clearly don't deserve to.

At least if they were losing, the big holes they have would be more evident and would have a better chance of being dealt with before it's yet again too late. As it is they will probably once again go into the playoffs with the team they have and again be thinking they will actually accomplish something this time because they've won so much in the regular season.

I have the same feeling about the Sens.
While I don't feel there are too many holes, I feel there are some that need to be plugged.
But, winning tends to hide those holes.
I am hoping our current mini slump (4-2-3 in Dec.) will get a bit of action.

Yoata

Heh, nice "slump". I can't really find any holes in the Sens' lineup, they are far and away the best team in the NHL this season imo and I would say only a couple key injuries (probably take 2 of Hasek, Alfie, Spezza, Heatley, Redden, Chara to hinder them enough) will keep them from winning it all this year unless one of the other contenders makes some serious upgrades, and even then. Plus they have cap room, and assets they can do without, so I could see them actually being one of the bigger buyers. If they don't win the cup this year, like I said, aside from a couple key injuries stopping them, they probably never will.
