There's no question Marty is extremely well-received and well-respected within the (Team Canada) coaching staff. We're not as concerned about him over these 30 games as maybe other people are. No disrespect to the New Jersey Devils, but the defense that plays (for Team Canada) is a bit better than the defense that plays for the New Jersey Devils.

Ironically, Gretz still thinks the Devils are a Mickey Mouse club. *wink*

Seriously tho'...It's been suggested that there are netminders that should be ahead of Marty on the Team Canada depth chart. Do you think Marty should be left off the Olympic squad? Who do you think should be left at home watching the action on the tube? My vote goes to Bertuzzi. I don't think his play so far this season allows him a spot on the team. Same goes for Rick Nash.

Thoughts, comments?

You bring Marty.. but he shouldn't be the #1.

I think Nash and St. Louis have played themselves off the team, as has Jovo.

Crosby definitely should stay at home, he is not even close to warranting a spot on the team on merit, but hype and pimping by your teammate sometimes overcomes merit in the political world of hockey. Bertuzzi perhaps as well should stay home. I am not sold on Draper either.

Brodeur should still be given first shot at starting IMO. While his stats aren't incredibly good, he's been coming on of late, and until somebody knocks him off, I'd think he's Canada's #1 guy between the pipes. I'd also put Joseph ahead of Luongo right now, and Turco should at least get a shot. Between those 4, somebody is not going to make the team.

Nash hasn't played enough to be taken, Bertuzzi has been hot-and-cold, and St. Louis hasn't been the player he was in 2003-2004. I don't know if I'd take any of them to be honest. Jovanovski is...well...Jovanovski...it's risky to take him. I'd actually put Phaneuf ahead of him based on this season. Crosby shouldn't go either, but then again I'm anti-Crosby.:D

One does not have to be anti-Crosby to recognize he does not deserve to go, one just has to be rational and not Crosby-fanatical. Then again that would eliminate 90% of Canadians who think Crosby is some god, and are hypnotized by the Crosby hype. I agree Bertuzzi should not be on the team, Nash probably should not either but since he has come back to play they might take him because of his World Championship performance, St. Louis is playing better lately but has been dissapointing compared to his last NHL season.

Jovanovski is hot and cold I find as well. Phaneuf should be considered more than he is, he would be a big asset to the team IMO, maybe they are fearful he is a little overagressive for international officiating which is alot tighter than NHL.

How is Phaneuf a better choice than Crosby?
