RIGA, Latvia (CP) - Canada scored three goals in the second period en route to a 3-1 exhibition win over Latvia on Monday in a tuneup for the IIHF world hockey championship. Latvia's Janis Sprukts opened the scoring at 14:43 of the first period with an unassisted goal.
Patrick Marleau sparked Canada's second-period comeback with a goal on the power play at 5:28. Simon Gagne scored at 8:22 and Dany Heatley at 17:15. Martin Brodeur was solid in goal for Canada.
The two teams open the world tournament Saturday in Austria. Canada closes out its exhibition schedule on Thursday against the Czech Republic in Prague.
