Danton's father arrested: reports

Police reportedly have charged Steve Jefferson, the father of imprisoned former NHL player Mike Danton, with harassment.

Authorities have yet to confirm the arrest, but family members told the Hockey News that Jefferson was whisked away by police on suspicion of harassing David Frost, Danton's agent.
"They picked him up, but they didn't handcuff him," Tom Jefferson, Steve's 18-year-old son, told the Hockey News on Thursday.
Sportsnet later reported that Jefferson was transported to Madoc, Ont., two hours northeast of his Brampton, Ont., residence, to be processed.
He was charged with harassment and released.
Frost, meantime, told TSN that: "I received a series of phone messages, sometimes up to 15-20 messages a night. I handed over the tapes of the messages to the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) around the dinner hour (Wednesday)."
Danton, 25, is serving 7 1/2 years in a New Jersey prison for conspiring to kill Frost in a murder-for-hire plot uncovered in 2004.
The former New Jersey Devils and St. Louis Blues forward has formally requested to be transferred to a Canadian penitentiary.
"I know my dad got a hold of Frost's number and was leaving him phone messages every once in a while," Tom stated. "He wasn't threatening him physically or anything, just leaving random messages, saying things like his time is going to come and he should be ashamed of himself. That kind of thing."
Steve Jefferson told the CBC's the fifth estate in a documentary aired Wednesday that Frost cultivated and maintains a svengali-like hold over his son, Mike, who changed his name from Jefferson to Danton as part of his ongoing estrangement from the family.
Jefferson and his wife, Sue, further alleged that Tom was victimized five years ago by Frost, who tied him to a bed with duct tape and made him eat pancakes that had been spit on.
Danton's bid to hire strip club bouncer Ron Jones as a hitman for $10,000 US failed, but he approached Justin Levi Jones with similar offer, unaware that the latter was a police dispatcher.
Levi Jones reported Danton's murder-for-hire scheme to his police chief who, in turn, contacted the FBI, before pretending to accept the offer.

The father, and the rest of the family, has been cut off from their son because Frost has brainwashed Danton to the point where he won't talk to them. I'm not surprised Mike Danton tried to have Frost killed; it was a last ditch attempt to get Frost and his bad influence out of his life. Sadly, Frost is back in control of Danton, who is an incredibly screwed up person.
Why can't others, including doctors, see that Danton needs help? Frost is an evil b@stard who has destroyed Danton's life and should be cut off from Danton. Then Danton can get help from psychiatrists to restore his mental health.

Danton and his father haven't exactly handeled this whole situation very well through this whole soap opera either. Nobody here is coming off as 'innocent' to me... lock them all up for a while and throw in some pills for good measure. But yeah... this evil Frost guy is bad news. Danton should fire his lawyer and hire Batman instead.

worst casting ever for the Mr. Freeze roleI agree that the whole situation has been handled badly by everyone but wouldn't you be going over the edge if you saw your child being manipulated by someone like Frost and you couldn't do a darn thing about it?

Absolutely. Actually, I'd probably break his knees before leaving a bunch of messages on his answering machine.... but I'm not sure that he 'couldn't do anything about it'. I mean, Frost went to the OPP because of Danton's messages - why couldn't Danton (the Father) go to the OPP to start with? Or the league, or anyone? If he was aware of the relationship and the situation then he should have done something before this whole sordid affair got out of hand. Maybe he did go to authorities - I don't know. But it doesn't sound like it and if you go around the law... you have to be prepared to deal with the gerbils*!
* ( I really mean to say consequences here, but I just felt the need to say gerbils for some reason.)

* ( I really mean to say consequences here, but I just felt the need to say gerbils for some reason.)Yes, I blew it there. What I should have said was Danton's father has options but can't seem to get past leaving nasty messages. He should go to the cops or get himself his own lawyer and petition the court for an injunction order against Frost. Danton's family seems stuck in a groove and is literally incapable of helping save their son/brother. Danton's father seems like a hothead who wants to settle things the old fashion way, with fists. It's just conjecture on my part but that could be a reason why Danton sought Frost's support so many years ago.
If Danton is to be truly healed, his family needs to get past their own hurt feeling, get a lawyer and get Frost out of the picture.
By the way, gerbils would only be relevant if we were discussing gay cowboys eating pudding.

This whole episode is sick. Have you heard the that taped conversation between Danton and Frost. They talk about the hit, and at the end Frost makes Danton tell him he loves him. %$#@ing Bizarre! (You tried to have me killed, now tell me you love me. Wacko)
Personally Dantons behaviour reminds me of a battered wife, or severely abused child. His subservience to Frost, coupled with these love/hate emotions Danton has towards him should have every shrink and counsellor shaking their heads. Perhaps, due to the obvious mental problems of Danton, if he had tried to kill Frost himself, he could have gotten off the charge using a Battered Wife type of defense.
Regardless of all this the fact that Frost is still allowed contact with young hockey players is disgusting. And yet every picture I've seen of him the last couple of days has been him standing in an arena. If I were a parent and I saw him walking in I would begin to very loudly question him about Danton and the obvious brainwashing and abuse(be it mental or physical) Frost imposed on him. I would continue questioning him until the entire arena and league knew exactly who he was and the kind of crap he puts into a young persons head.
Or I might wait outside and kneecap him. It's up in the air.

Dad of convicted former NHL player Mike Danton to appear in court Jan. 10
posted December 2 @ 13:45, EST
TORONTO (CP) - The father of jailed former NHL player Mike Danton has been told to appear in court Jan. 10 to face a charge of criminal harassment.
The charge reportedly involves 22 phone calls Steve Jefferson made over three days to his son's agent, David Frost.
Jefferson was arrested in Brampton, Ont., one day after the airing of a CBC documentary detailing his son's strange relationship with Frost.
Danton is serving a 7 1/2-year prison sentence in New Jersey for trying to hire a hit man to kill Frost.
Jefferson says he called Frost 20 times before, during and after the telecast.
Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kristine Cholette says Jefferson was charged after police received a complaint, but she wouldn't release details.
"Anything that's got to do with the charges before the courts, I can't discuss," Cholette said Friday.
Danton, 25, changed his last name from Jefferson and has severed ties with his family.
The documentary featured FBI tapes that recorded Frost counselling the former St. Louis Blues player to deny Frost was the target of the hit and to blame his emotional problems on his parents.
Frost's status as an accredited agent is being reviewed by the NHL Players' Association.
Danton is asking a U.S. federal court to rule that he be transferred to a Canadian prison so he can become eligible for earlier parole
22 calls in 3 days....

[my rant]
If anyone saw The Fifth Estate, you will also see a massive connection between Frost and Goodenow. The whole thing is sick and Charlio I agree with you, it does look like battered wife "syndrome" (maybe they should call it battered person syndrome).
Frost was also found guilty of abusing Danton's younger brother. Making him dance naked in front of his buddies for hours and more. This is one very sick organisation.
Thank God, none of my nephews are NHL material. If they had Frost as an coach/agent, I would do worse than Danton's father. I would send an email to every paper in the country with all of the evidence I had, including pictures, with the caveat that they are not to be printed, unless the face was blacked out.[/my rant]
I am livid about the whole thing. Can you tell?
The minute David Frost taped my son to a bed would be the last time he taped anyone to anything.
In fact, by the time he was through meeting my Louisville slugger ("Casino" style), he'd need all of his tape just to hold together what was left of him.
(there I said it)
I'd be with you Mel. In fact he'd be beyond tape after I got through with him.

I think he knows better than to come to this part of the woods. However maybe in the dead of winter we could .....naw I would rather get him. Idiots like that need to be stopped. What bothers me is the association with Goodenow who should have known his reputation.

Frost, reported target of Danton murder-for-hire plot, resigns as agent
posted December 6 @ 11:31, EST
TORONTO (CP) - The man who handled the career of jailed NHLer Mike Danton has resigned as an NHL player agent.
The NHL Players' Association announced David Frost's resignation in a brief statement.
Frost came under renewed scrutiny recently when CBC's The Fifth Estate examined his relationship with Danton.
Danton is serving a 7 1/2-year sentence in a U.S. prison for a murder-for-hire scheme.
Prosecutors say Frost was the intended target, but he has always denied being the target.
Frost's client list has been small, with Danton and Sheldon Keefe the most prominent players.
This is a good day for minor hockey.

Has anyone looked inot Frost's finances. He has run some junior B and minor teams and been an agent for some "fringe" players, I don't see a lot of cash flow there, it all seems a bit suspicious to me.
You are right. He seems to have a ton of money .... enough to lend Danton $25,000. He has to have had some other form of income.
