Well some one must have heard my plea for these new-look Rangers to add some toughness... they have acquired the rugged rookie Colton Orr from Boston off waivers.

Ironically, Orr was the victim of current Ranger Dale Purinton's pre-season gouging incident just a few months ago, however he holds no grudge according to interviews.

No matter... with Orr on the team... Purninton can stay in Hartford now, or be dealt.

This was badly needed IMO. The Rangers have been gradually more victimized in recent weeks by guys taking runs at skilled players.

Quotes from Rangers head coach Tom Renney...

"He obviously brings some special things to our team"

"We'll work to his strengths as the need arises"

ok sounds good to me

Orr made his Rangers debut last night, and was desparate to prove himself... practically begging to fight anyone at times.

But no one on the Caps obliged in the 5-1 Ranger loss.

At any rate, Orr might just get his wish Monday night When Derek Boogaard and the Minnesota Wild visit the Rangers on OLN Network.

Boogaard is a 6'7" 270 pound rookie out of Saskatoon, who already has 7 FM's on the season *gulp*

If others back down from fighting him, it would still serve the purpose of keeping the others teams goons off the Rangers skilled players I would imagine. :)

He seems eager to make a splash on Broadway... and the only way he can really do that is with his fists.

But the Rangers coaches have been very open about the fact they don't want a goon... they want to roll 4 lines all year. So if Orr's gonna scrap every now and then fine, but more importantly for his sake... he needs to play smart and not be a liability on the ice.

They want him ideally to be a 10-12 minute guy. They apparently have seen something in his game they like (aside from the obvious).

At any rate, he's definitely looking to get noticed right now and make an impression... so I'll be watching for that tonight and Wednesday in Chicago.

Maybe he will be a Tie Domi type of player. Not extremely skilled or talented overall by any means, but not just an enforcer, somebody who can battle for the puck well in corners, skates pretty well, grinds well, along with fighting and sticking up for the younger players?
