Crease concerns for Pens
The Penguins, last place in the Atlantic Division, have allowed a league-worst 4.21 goals per game.
Sportsnet.ca -- Marc-Andre Fleury is in and now Jocelyn Thibault may be on his way out of Pittsburgh. Sportsnet has learned the Penguins placed the veteran goaltender on waivers Tuesday.
Thibault refused a two-week conditioning stint in the American Hockey League with Wilkes-Barre, forcing Pens general manager Craig Patrick to make the move.
Thibault will make $1.5-million over the next two seasons if he isn't claimed. If he does clear waivers (Wednesday at noon ET), it's believed Pittsburgh will step up efforts to trade him or Sebastien Caron.
Failing any outside interest by the end of the week, Thibault could find himself in Wilkes-Barre anyway.
In other Penguins news, Mario Lemieux will return to the Pittsburgh lineup Tuesday when the club hosts the Buffalo Sabres. Lemieux was out with an apparent "stomach virus" but did not discuss the condition with the media Tuesday.Link (http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/article.jsp?content=20051129_131105_3236)
What a joke. Like goaltending is the only problem on this team. The Pens have offense but no defense and the goalie is the player that gets replaced. Thibault was keeping the Pens in games and he gets sent down. I'd refuse the assignment as well. Hopefully another team picks Thibault up and gets him away from a mickey mouse team but the way things are going Thibault could end up in St Louis, another team in the cellar.
Fleury was doing well on the farm but that won't translate into NHL wins unless he gets some help from the rest of the players on the ice. I see the Pens continuing to struggle. If they make the playoffs, it will be the 8th spot and the Sens will slaughter them in the first round.
