Floydian Analysis
PETER HOWELL
ENTERTAINMENT REPORTER

*Drummer Nick Mason wants to set the record straight on Pink Floyd with his new book. But what he really wants, it seems, is to tour again

NEW YORK?The coincidence is positively cosmic, although in this case it's probably better to call it Floydian.

Pink Floyd's Nick Mason strolls into the lobby of The Mercer, a hip SoHo hotel, and the burgundy shirt and black slacks he's wearing match the uniform of the waiters in the adjacent lounge..... Excellant article Dev.

I for one would love to see them get back together again and hit the road for one more go at it.

Rusty you should get the book it's in a lovely hardcover, great read and all kinds of trippy eye candy / rare phioto's etc.

- There was mention in that article of Nick maybe holding some signings in Toronto, I'm all over that if it pans out...

Well I just finished downloading, I went to burn it onto a CD, and damn it it is over 2 minutes overtime!

What do I do now?????

Madferret
4-24-05, 9:22 PM
spilt the cd's in 2 and make 2 discs, or if you have a mp3 converter that will work, just compress em into mps..

Rusty
4-24-05, 9:32 PM
I downloaded two albums, both were the same!

Anyway I converted it to wav file but it still came up overtime by almost 3min..........

Wav from what, mpeg? That won't do it man. You need an MP3 compresser. I can email you the program if you want. Its easy as hell to use...

leave it as mp3 rusty, you can get almost double on a disc..

Rusty
4-24-05, 10:03 PM
I know that, but I need a Disc player that is MP3 capable. My disc player in the truck is only CD, and the same with the one at work.

Madferret
4-24-05, 10:05 PM
Aahhh, so you have no mp3 player?
Making 2 discs my boy.....

Rusty

Madferret

I remember. Do you have a nice 5.1 Sound system at home? You know that the PULSE DVD will be out in the fall with gobs of extra goodies, tour footage, interviews, bonus songs from the Divisiion Bell Tour not on the Disc (Astronomy / Take it Back etc.. ) It's almost done being mixed to 5.1......

So you're looking for some Barret solo stuff. Take it Back is a track on the Division Bell, take a look HERE (http://music.uk.launch.yahoo.com/ar-259740-discography--Syd-Barrett) and tell me what you fancy. Are you saying you have some live Floyd bootlegs from the Syd days?

It might have another title, but there was an album released in the UK by the same name I think. Apparently it has a ripping live version of Astronomy domine on it. Someone told me Barrett is on it... but it's a later release - so I was hoping you knew something about it.

I think I know what you're talking about. On the 94' tour they did Domine, and when they released the Take It Back single in the UK, Domine live was the B-Side. Same with the Division Bell single (the song), it has One of These Days live as the B-Side. Both live versions are from the 94 tour....

There really isn't much in the way of Syd with Floyd bootlegs, but if you're looking for some of his solo stuff or some other Floyd bootlegs, lemme know. Shine on Blue....

Bollocks eh? That's fair... coming from a sens fan. People find it strange that I'm a fan of the cut, but I don't like the wall. I've never viewed it as a reject album, from end to end I find it a lot tighter than the wall. Many fond memories go along with that album - it's probably more nostalgia than anything. Still a great driving sound track IMO.

I didn't like The Final Cut either. In my opinion Roger Waters had just taken so much control over what the band was going to write and sing that it really took away from the album. It seems as if David Gilmour and Nick Wright or Richard Mason (I can never remember who was thrown out) had no say on this album.

However, I wanted to know what everybody thought about their 1987 release with the name escaping me right now. I liked "Learning to Fly" and "The Turning Away." I thought it was a pretty good album.

Roger Waters, co-founder of British rock group Pink Floyd, scrawled graffiti across the concrete barrier walling off parts of the West Bank before performing in Israel Thursday.
British rock musician Roger Waters had a message for Israel — take down the wall. (Ariel Schalit/AP)

He spray painted "No thought control," a line from Pink Floyd's The Wall, in red on the concrete blocks of the wall near the town of Bethlehem.

He urged Israel to tear down the wall, before performing at a makeshift concert site in Neveh Shalom, a Jewish-Arab village seen as a model for Jewish and Palestinian Israelis hoping to live in harmony...

How were the shows? Did Waters play any tracks from his opera, Ça Ira (http://www.ca-ira.com/)? I picked up a copy of Ça Ira (http://www.ca-ira.com/) a couple of weeks ago and agree with the learned critics that he shouldn't have remained so conventional with it.

Go to the supplied link and you can listen to the opera. While you are doing that, read the story provided here -> EQ Magazine (http://www.eqmag.com/story.asp?storyCode=13279) that describes the recording process that Waters used in creating his classical masterpiece.
