View Full Version : Hawks, Nov. 22
Now this is hockey.
Through 2 periods, first 2 stars are the refs for only calling real penalties (although to be totally honest a couple of the Hawks penalties were a little weak, but nothing as blatantly bad as I've seen a lot of lately, and can't expect them to be perfect), and guess what, a good entertaining 5-5 game with plenty of offensive chances both ways, up an down action, and very little/no hooking/holding/clutching/grabbing/obstruction, guys have actually had to fight through a bump or tug here and there :eyebug: (which they've done without constantly looking to the zebras for a call), and there's even been some battles in the corners and in front of the net. Hope they keep it up.
Nucks are playing with some determination, and pretty decent at both ends, nobody's been perfect, but no major mistakes, quite a few shots on Auld, who's been very solid, but most from the outside. Naslund is really playing well defensively, Kesler is skating well. and deserved the goal after several good chances.
Been quite impressed with two of the Hawk D, the youngster Duncan Keith I think has played with a lot of poise, and of course, Auconi, who is just the kind of guy the Canucks need. Too bad they gave him away for a 2nd rate goaltender.
Canucks need to come out in the 3rd with all pistons firing and dominate like they should against a weaker team.
Is 5-5 referring to 5 on 5 or the score being 5-5?
Sportsnet is saying 2-1 :conspire:
Well they didn't dominate, but they did shut the door, good job by the Sedin line and the Kesler line in the 3rd, Kesler had probably his best game as a Canuck. One thing the Canucks didn't do enough of was hit, hardly saw one until the 3rd, they need to be more physical, more often, although I imagine they're scared to hit a guy when there's constant penalties for just getting within 10 feet of a guy, until tonight that is, great job by the refs in this one, say what you will about Fraser's hair, he knows how to call a hockey game.

Completely agree about the refs. Very enjoyable, especially following that Anaheim fiasco.

Good points:
1. The A S S line had lots of good chances and click near the end of the game with a great feed from Anson to Henrik. Canucks fans never get enough A S S. :D
2. The KRaP line scored. Good to see Kesler net one after so many chances. All three players had good games. I wish Park got some top line minutes, his speed would open up things for Naslund.
3. The Westcoast garbage scow scored on the powerplay. Glad to see the top line click but I'm still waiting for the line to break out 5 on 5.
4. Defense was great for the most part, a few brutal mistakes that could have turned the game around. Brookbank wasn't that bad, no mistakes by him.
5. Auld played really well and only looked bad on Aucoin's shot from the point. Like me, Auld had no idea where the puck went.
6. Only one penalty, it was deserved and the refs called a good game.
Bad points:
1. Bertuzzi's brutal giveaway 6.5 minutes into the second period. Good thing Matthew Barnaby was the Blackhawks' forward who got the breakaway because Barnaby sucks and Auld's grandmother could have stopped him.
2. Bertuzzi is still floating too much. Maybe he's still hurting but he's holding back the top line. His floating and dumb passing habits are rubbing off on Morrison. :burning:
3. This game was the first chance I got to see a clear shot of Kerry Fraser. In the year off, Fraser looks like he's aged 30 years. His face looks like he just got back from a year in the desert. Kerry, spend some of your hairspray budget on moisturizer.
In the middle:
1. I just realized that Crawford's hair looks like the top of a porcupine.
2. When Jaroslav Spacek is finished playing hockey, he can go back to the Czech Republic and join the secret police. He's scary looking; I'd confess to anything just to keep him from beating me senseless.
Crow definitely needs a haircut, has for a while.

It was good to be back at GM Place. Last game I saw there was a couple years back. The seats seem smaller
Anyway, pretty lacklustre first period..the hawks get a backbreaker of a late first period goal. They were carrying the play, down the other end of the ice, for most of the period.
Second period was better. The Canucks showed a lot more hustle. Kesler was flying out there. He is VERY fast. Several good chances, and was rewarded with a good goal. The way he was playing, could have had several goals. The crowd was chanting "Ruutu" several times throughout the game The line of Ruutu-Kesler-Park was very solid.
The twins and carter looked even more dominant in person. Carter really worked his butt off on the insurance goal. That goal was a nice one, thats for sure. Carter may not score a lot, but he is working his butt off in other areas of the game.
The top line looked alright, but that was about it. Naslund seemed to be doing a lot of the work. Morrison looked to be trying, but just doesn't have the finish.
The stone hands line had a solid defensive game too.
Auld was very solid, and made several good saves. However, there were a few floaters
Overall a good game. The Canucks were outworked/skated for a lot of the game..but again found a way to capitalize on the chances they had.
Onto the next

Ruutu was hitting quite well out there.
I am very impressed with his elevated play so far this season

Fixed. :D

I agree he was in the 3rd as I said, but I didn't see much before that.
