I have always used a mousepad, because I thought it was good for my mouse to have one under it. That was until I spilt some hot tea on the mousepad today (yeah, I know it was stupid to have hot tea near the computer).

So I took it from under my mouse and put it in the dryer to obviously dry it, so I was left without a mousepad. I just kept using my mouse without one and I found that navigating was much easier. The mouse rolled so smooth on the computer desk's wood surface.

I may never go back to a mousepad again. So I ask you - do you use a mousepad? Do you think they're really all that necessary? Anything you want to mention about computer mice/micepads?

I don't find much diff between surfaces. Keeping the rollers clean inside is good maintenance.

Then there is something called modern technology. Cordless optical mouse and keyboard defeat the purpose of rollers and cords.

Stop living in the 1990's Slappy. :]

Corded Optical mouse..no mousepad...you need a lighter coloured surface anyways to reflect the light back inside the infrared sensor, and most pads i've seen and used are dark...in other words a no-no

My desk is dark btw.

Update: My rolling ball mouse has pooched out on me and was making it very difficult to reach places on the screen, so I have gotten rid of it. I went out to Future Shop yesterday and picked up an optical mouse (not wireless though, Matt C.). Very simple - just plug and play. I've really enjoyed it. It's much smoother to navigate around the screen (no delays, like I was getting with the ball). BTW, I'm still not using a mousepad.

No mouse pad. . .
This mouse

It's called a vertical mouse.
It places the hand in a more neutral "hand-shake" position.
