It is very intresting and entertaining. The versions of Hero's and Villans and Good Vibrations have different lyrics from what you have heard from the single rleases and various Beach Boy Greatest Hits complilations. Pet Sounds remains for me Brian Wilson's masterpiece. This album is like Rhapsody in Blue in which different musical phrases/themes are explored and sampled throughout the the entire piece. It is meant to be listened to at one sitting. Brian Wilson was composing these mini-symphonies throughout 1965/66/67. Legend has it that he and Paul McCartney were playing a game of one upmanship with each other. But where McCartney had John Lennon and to a lesser extent George Harrison to share song writing and instrumental ideas, and George Martin supervising, Brian Wilson was doing it all himself. It is no wonder he had a nervous break down. What is sad is that it took nearly 20 years for him to be rid of quacks and sycophants to get the therapy he really needs.

They have a few good songs, but I still say in general they are overrated.
They also changed they way bands play live (*see Live at Leeds), brought power chords, 5ths and distortion to mainstream audiences like the Beatles did with Chinese 9ths and suspended chords...
Bob, you got your opinion and I respect it. I think you're forgetting that bands like The Who didn't have 30 years of influences to fall back on as bands nowadays do. They were pioneers, you can't call a band that's highly responsible for the way bands sound, act, perform and write overrated. Do you have any musical background? It could change the way you feel about The Who. Not liking their music is one thing, but discounting what they did for R&R and calling it overrated is a very un-educated statement...

I'm sure the Who are pioneers as you say, or were part of a group of bands that changed music, but to me their music is very plain and ordinary. They may be great guitarists or know loads about music, but when they put it all together it does nothing for me... hence me calling them overrated. It's the same with Hendrix and the Doors for me; they could be great musicians and really know how to play complicated guitar, but when they put it together it doesn't sound good...Anyway
