A shade early I know, but I wanted to get this out of the way since it's a short month and I might not be around next weeekend. First a little background.....

So far this season, no other goaltender has faced nearly as many shots as Florida's Roberto Luongo. Luongo has been pelted 623 times through just 18 games. Only one other NHL goalie - Rick Dipietro - has even reached the 500 shot mark!

Through it all, Luongo has still managed to keep a respectable 2.79 GAA and a .923 SV%, stopping 575 of the shots he's faced along the way... (well over 100 more saves than any other NHL net minder).

Now the Panthers have a torrid December lying ahead, in which they play 15 games in 30 days. Who's on tap? For starters how about 5 of the top 6 NHL scoring teams (per game) in Ottawa, Philly, Detroit, LA and Carolina to name a few.

So with all that in mind, the question of the month for December 2005 is...

How many total saves will Roberto Luongo make in the month of December 2005?

Closest numeric guess wins. Guessing ends at midnight ET November 30.

Do we know how many shots Luongo ended up facing up until the deadline of this?
He's at 972 currently.

Mr. Luongo is currently at 1065 shots faced. according to ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/statistics?stat=nhlgoalies&league=nhl&sort=tsa&order=true&qual=true&season=2006&seasontype=2&pos=all) - with 972 saves.

I have no idea how many of those came in December.
Margerine Mel will need to do some funky math to get us the answer.
