This game should be a good one. Both teams like to play a run and gun style.

Canucks will win if they play well defensively, and shut down the top line.

4-2 Canucks final

Cloutier has been hot since his return from injury
2-0
1.00 GAA
967 SP

He should have another good game

My brother and I were watching the game, and it was apparent..this isn't the same team as before the lockout.
They lack alot of desire, and are missing a few pieces of the puzzle.
Here are my thoughts on the game

-Morrison. He has to step up his game. A season in europe, and he plays like this? You HAVE to win faceoffs as a number one center. His lacklustre play has affected the top line. The Canucks want to be a possession team...how can they when they don't win nearly enough faceoffs???

-Naslund. Well, I was going to get at him..but then he turned his game around. I was thinking that there hasn't been a game this season..of which he has totally dominated.

-Allen. It seems he is returning to old form. Taking stupid penalties, and becoming a defensive liabilty. The past two games he has been below average, and not acceptable.

-Crawford. Perhaps its time he goes? The Canucks need to play a solid 60 minutes. Why the hell do you put Goren on the PP???? I shake my head at that

-Cloutier. Sure, he didn't have much help. But the 5th goal was a backbreaker, and should have been stopped.

-Defense as a whole. This season it has shown mighty gaps. I've said it before, and will again..they need to add another NHL quality defender. Damn cap.

This game was 5-4..sure..but the score was no result of the actual game played. The refs were pathetic, and should have called a few calls on both sides..that were not called.

The Canucks NEED a faceoff center. Sillinger?? Perhaps a good investment at the trade deadline. Bump Kesler down to play with Linden and Ruttu

This team is incredibly frustrating to watch

Nucks need a change and he should be the one to go. I think a coaching change is past due and would make a world of difference.
What a game last night? was it 4 goals in the 3rd period and they almost tied it

I?m disappointed in Morrison too I thought for sure he?d be more dominant after a year in Europe and with the rule changes.

I've heard this "year in Europe" thing a few times now, what exactly does that mean, and how was that supposed to turn a 30 yr old consistent 65 point 2-way center into a "dominant" player that he's never been?

He's playing very solid at both ends as usual, leads the team in icetime, and by far in +/- especially among forwards, is right on pace for his usual offensive output, and will likely increase that if his useless, floating "power forward" linemate decides to play more than a shift or 2 a game at best.

I only saw the first but way too many dumb penatlites. When our best face off man appears to be Trevor Linden (I don't have the stats) then this team is in trouble. A puck possession team needs to have the puck. Yoata has been advocating making Jovo a forward, heck try him at center. The Canucks are a good unit but they are not an elite team that can coast and then turn on the offence when the need it to steal games. The lack of 60 solid minutes hurts this team now and will do much damage later. I think they have turned Crawford off, and the limited cap room does not allow for line up tinkering asnd benching players.

BTW Timmy I told you quoting the post injury stats would jinx Cloutier :boogie:

Yeah, a coaching change could be what the doctor ordered. Crawford has been here for what..7 years? The problem is..who is a suitable replacement?

Andy Murray would fit like a glove. Too bad he coaches the Kings ;)

Yeah, yeah..:D Perhaps next time I should quote the opposing goalie's stats :boogie:

The Canucks aren't playing like the elite team of old. Simple as that.

I only meant it by
A) he was doing well in Europe and with the "new" rules I thought he'd be getting more points
B) The fact that he played last year simply helps that he stayed in (game) shape

I?m not suggesting he?s not playing well just saying I thought he?d be getting more points

And I totally agree. Morrison played a full season in europe, and should be better

Look at Salo. He also played a year in europe..and is in top shape. So far he is one of the top two best defenders on the team

Then take a look at Jovo. He didn't play in Europe, and has had a harder time adjusting. Same with Bertuzzi, McCarthy etc..players who didnt play

Hell, throw Teddy Nolan's name into the hat. Every other thread that discusses a coaching change inevitably Nolan's name comes up. This thread should be no different.

Sorry, but 1 example either way doesn't make a case for correlation. Sure he might be in better shape, but it's not going to turn him suddenly into a superstar. He's doing what he's always done, be solid at both ends, act as the defensive conscience of the line, kill penalties, make good passes, and if the supposed dominant power forward on that line would get is big overpaid ass in gear and do his job, Morrison would probably score more too.

And btw, Salo has been by far the best Canuck dman this season, nobody else has even been close on any kind of consistent basis.
