The Binghamton Senators opened up a 1-0 lead in their East Division Semifinal series with a 5-2 win against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Senators played the first period firing on all cylinders as they scored two goals on Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. Josh Langfeld kicked off the scoring just 2:03 into the contest with a power-play goal. Jason Spezza and Anton Volchenkov were credited with the assists on Langfeld?s tally.

Defenseman Jesse Fibiger picked up his first goal of the playoffs six minutes later this time with Langfeld picking up an assist for his second point of the evening. Antoine Vermette was also given an assist.

The Penguins brought the score to within one when Matt Murley scored 1:44 after the drop of the puck in the second period. Drew Fata and Matt Hussey each picked up an assist on the goal.

Jason Spezza put home a power-play goal at the 16:48 mark of the second frame to extend the Sens? lead to 3-1 heading into the third stanza. Binghamton would add two goals in the third to give themselves a 5-1 lead.

Antoine Vermette gave the Sens a 4-1 lead at the 2:53 mark and Charlie Stephens picked up a goal to give Binghamton the four-goal cushion 12:49 into the period.

Wilkes-Barre?s Michel Ouellet made it a 5-2 game with a goal at the 13:19 mark of the third period. Ray Emery was outstanding in net for the Sens, stopping 33 of 35 shots. Marc-Andre Fleury was saddled with the loss for the Penguins stopping 24 of 29 shots.

Binghamton was 2 for 6 with the man-advantage while Wilkes-Barre closed out the night 0 for 7. Game two between the clubs will take place on Saturday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena with face-off scheduled for 7:05 p.m. You can catch all of the action on 680-AM WINR beginning at 6:35 p.m.
