High School Provincial Championship next week so this is what we at our golf course have been waiting for a long time.I can't wait for next week to come and go and this way I'll be back to my regular shift and back posting more and also able to finally watch some playoff hockey!

Congrats on becoming a dad, I had no idea. We were lucky with our 2 boys, they started sleeping through the night almost immediately . The problem for me is I work midnights, and my wife works 6am to 2pm. I get home at 7ish am and have to try and sleep around the kids nap times, until she gets home around 2ish. My days are long thats for sure, and to make matters worse, my wife is now 2 years into her degree so for 2 to 3 days a week I get maybe 5 hrs of broken sleep. This summer we have soccer and swim lessons and a trip to the mother ship that is Toronto. Yes folks, its the first ever Amo family trip to the Canadian National Exhibition!! Btw my 2 boys are now 6 and almost 2 :D
Congrats again Hack!

I'm in the middle of the worst year of my life. Oops, second worst year, the worst was my six months of hell with whatshername.
Anyways, I started the year recovering from a back problem. After I recovered from that, I had REM backlash. With all the drugs I took for the back injury, REM sleep is interrupted or blocked. Once off the drugs, I had multiple nightmares every night for weeks. Once I recovered from that I had two weeks of healthiness and then the kidney stones happened. What followed was 2 months of hell with lots of drugs, CT scans, cranberry juice and constant number #1's.
From the start of the kidney experience, it was determined that iced tea and fast food played a role in the kidney stones. So on a rainy, cloudy and somber day in March, I gave up drinking the greatest drink ever discovered, iced tea. Also gave up fast food and McDonalds had to lay off staff due to a major drop in income. :D
Anyways, I recovered from that and went back to work for the summer. There was the odd sore back from lifting too much but nothing that a cold pack couldn't fix.
Then Wednesday, August 1st arrived. The job for the last hour of work that day was to place two 5.5 foot long piece of granite on top of a below ground concrete curb so that the granite became one 11 foot long piece that was the transition between the flagstone landing for the front door and the driveway. The granite would be level with the flagstone (once it went in) and the driveway would be a 7 inch step down off the granite. Each 5.5 foot piece of granite was 10 - 11 inches wide and 10 - 11 inches thick. The plan was for the mason and three others (myself included) to pick up and carry each slab. Two guys at each end with each of us lifting the ends of a tie down strap that went under the granite seemed like a good method.
As I had earlier helped the mason cut the excess off the two pieces to bring them down to the proper 5.5 foot lengths, I couldn't help but notice that the pieces were frickin heavy. When I asked the mason how heavy he thought the pieces were; he said 300 pounds. I said that they looked a lot heavier than that and we should use the Bobcat and forks to pick up each piece, let the machine carry it the 20 feet we needed to cross and then just slid the granite off and carry it the last foot or so. The mason said why bother when it would be easier just to carry it. His way of thinking was 300 pounds/4 or 75 pounds each isn't that much weight.
I know I've had back problems in the past but there was no one else around to complete the foursome required to move the granite so I had no choice but to help.
So on 3, we lifted one of these bad boys. That 5.5 foot piece of granite was in excess of 600 pounds, possibly 700 pounds or more. We didn't have a scale but they were so freakin heavy we could hardly walk while carry each of them. Stupid thing is we did this twice. Plus the initial carry over was to a position past the string line and into the area where the landing would eventually be laid. We then had to lay down the mortar and set the pieces into their final position, level and straight. So we in fact lifted each piece twice. Upon completion, we continued to talk about how crazy we were to pick them up and then we went home.
I felt fine after that and I felt fine at work on the Thursday and Friday. I felt fine at home on the Saturday and Sunday morning.
Then it happened. The pain was gradual and I chalked it up to regular aches and pains. I was glad the following Monday was a holiday because I hurt worse.
It was late Monday night when I finally went to the ER complaining of back pain. At the time, I couldn't remember what I had done to myself. The ER doctor gave me a shot of some weak ass painkiller that had less effect on me than taking two Advils. He told be to go see my regular doctor.
Since Tuesday, August 7th, I have worked 5 days of the past 39. Turns out I torn the tendons that connect muscles to half way up my butt cheeks (Sacrospinalis) and the tendons that attach attach muscles to the side of my body level with my upper butt cheeks (Soas).
I've been on so many prescription drugs that my local drug store is thinking of buying me a hooker in appreciation for the business.*
Going back to work is a pipe dream at this point. Two weeks ago, things looked good but the pain has returned with a vengeance in the past week.
To top it all off, WCB/Worksafe (BC's workers compensation board) has denied my claim because I didn't report the injury right after finishing the placement of the granite. Considering I didn't feel pain until four days later, it was difficult to do so. Then the overly cheerful WCB lady says that WCB can't be sure that I didn't do something after work or on the weekend to hurt myself. I darn near said that I like to come home and move my fridge and stove around on weekends for fun.
All I do is work, eat, sleep and work more, and now WCB, who should support me, is telling me to take a flying leap. :curse:
I'm currently working with my mom on my appeal as she isn't on any prescription drugs while I'm loopy as heck. The drugs did help me to think up my current signature though so they're not all bad.
Finally, to top off a great August, my car gets rear ended on Friday, August 24th, while I'm on my way to the doctor's office. It was a minor fender bender. We pulled over and I got his name and cellphone number (it's his real number) but I failed to write down the plate number. Considering I have only been in one other accident, I didn't remember all the information I needed to get. Anyways, he had run into my spare tire which hangs on the back door of my Rav4. The spare tire was pushed forward so the spare tire bracket buckled the back door. It's minor damage, not worthy of the cops showing up.
First thing the guy says is sorry. Second thing was that he didn't want to deal with ICBC (BC's government owned car insurer) and he'd pay for it himself if I could get a quote. I went to the Toyota dealership in town and then to the recommended body shop. The body shop dude said that he couldn't give me a quote unless the interior plastic was removed from the back door. Immediately I wanted to protect myself and not get stuck with the bill in the guy who hit me back out of paying more than he felt was necessary to fix my Rav4. So I called ICBC and the fun began.
ICBC said that if the hitter paid the bill once everything was fixed, the hitter's insurance rates would not change. Also I needed the hitter's plate number and driver's licence number for the claim. So I called the hitter and told him that I had filed a claim and need those two numbers. He freaked out, said he'd find an autobody shop that would fix my vehicle without ICBC's involvement and hung up.
A few days later, I starting calling him again. First his cellphone is shut off for three days and then it went straight to messaging for another four days. So finally I get through to him, we talk and he says the gem I still remember to this day, "My rates went up after my last accident". I was booting myself in the head mentally for that. I'm thinking crap, I'm dealing with someone who gets in lots of accidents. Anyways, he asks for the claim number, the 1-800 number for ICBC, and then hangs up. I thought things were going in the right direction finally, boy was I wrong.
I've talked to ICBC since and a rep from ICBC called the hitter and was verbally assaulted and hung up on by the guy who hit me.
I've finally turned this over to the cops, who were able to pull up his driver's license and the vehicle plate number.
Oh and to top it off, I went to the ER on the Saturday after the accident and guess what, I have whiplash and it still hurts to this day.
I forgot to mention that I got my cholestral tested for the first time ever and my bad cholestral is really high and my good cholestral is really low. My doctor said I could be dead in 10 years if I don't change a lot of things, including eating healthy and my weight.:(
2007 still has 3.5 months left in it. I would hide for the rest of the year but it hurts too much to crawl under the bed.
I didn't write this for sympathy or any similar reason, it was strictly cathartic for me and is hopefully a warning for others that not looking after your body leads to serious consequences.
*Drugstores buying me hookers is a joke. Only the Lipton Brisk sales rep buys me hookers. The drug store has seen me more than my parents have in the past month and a half though.
PS I got NHL Centre Ice for the coming season. Hockey can't start soon enough; this is worse than waiting for Christmas.
PPS How was the summer for everyone else?
good to see you back online tea bag. Sounds like you had some problems but things seem to be straightening out for you.
Next time somebody has an idea for you to carry big blocks of granite around, I would politely decline :D

Those of you that know me from other haunts on the web are aware that my now 6 year old son Andrew, was born with a congenital heart defect called Tricuspid Atresia. He has endured 3 major open heart surgeries and 8 cardiac catheterization procedures to help his heart adjust to and compensate for the defect. Well for the past 3 and half years or so he has been fine and developing normally into a happy, active and very smart little boy. Yesterday he and my wife had routine eye exams. We discovered that his right eye is not fuctioning properly and that his brain is not processing images from that eye. He is now wearing an eyepatch over his left eye to help strengthen the right one and will be fitted for glasses with a "coke bottle" thick lens for the right eye.
On a happier note, for those that know I have been offered a new job!
Good luck to you and yours Mark.
Hopefully some day we will have an oppurtunity to go for a coffee someday.

My son is a very happy little guy who does not let it get to him. Last night he was having a ball at Beaver's as they went snow shoing for the first time. We are using the eye patch when he does drawing and craft/learning activities here at home, I will wear one as well as support.
I am working in a Resources Center for Job Seekers and also working on a guide outling support services for Job Seekers.

I tell you, funny you work at a resource center. I am currently in this course in the Aerospace industry. Nothing but "potential" and "growth" on our way in the door. Today however, I am very very concerned there wont be any positions for my skill set. Machinist that is. I am VERY concerned. There really is no turning back I feel. I am in, up to my knees, leaving now would be certain death. I am best to ride the wave until June, and roll the dice from there. In the end, I've been through hells half acre so I shouldn't really be so concerned I suppose, I guess if I've got to I can always wash dishes... ;) I've done it before when the going got tough...trouble is, by then our little guy will be well on his way....I must remember the most important thing, my child will only know how much love I have for it, not how much money I make:thumb:

Thanks a bunch KB, means a lot...believe me. Machinist wasn't my first choice in life. I've had other professions. However, somehow along the way I've always had a wrench in my hand and now I've actually found my way to a place where I can really take my mechanical skills way over the top....even if I don't do it in my place of work and I build my cars on the side. Further, I will have one more thing earned from my life's resume in which I will share with the newcomer to our clan. ;) :thumb:

I'm sorry, but if they ask your opinion then completely discount anything you have to offer before you say it, then just make decisions without consulting the whole, there is a problem.

Nice. Just finished up some shopping today myself for Xmas.
I built my GF a new computer. Kicks ass too. Like, mega gaming rig.
Since I suck at buying things, but generally know where my family shops, I went the gift certificate route. Except for the mother, who loves personalized stuff and surprises. Easy to get stuff for her though. just make sure a cat is involved in a picture and she is sold.
Saw "I am Legend" today too. Was pretty good. Ripped off many recent movies though. Why the hell can;t they get together and make a vampire film like the lost boys again????
Brought up the "chat" issue and was told it was not important again. Like anything I bring up is ever considered important anyways. :snore:

Ha, leave it to a guy who recently joined the mod staff to look through all the crap and see what the real problem is. Too bad we didn't have somebody to do it sooner. Oh well, my amount of interest in what happens over there has gone downhill since the merge as it is.
So anyway, I just about spun my truck into a lightpole about an hour ago on the way home from work. Although it was actually my fault. I saw the corner looked a bit icy, so I gassed it a bit as I was turning and whipped the back end around further than I wanted. I ended up completely sideways with my front tires up over the curb and a light pole about 8 inches from the driver's side door. I love driving in icy conditions.

Yeah, it's like that in the winter here too, although it hasn't been as bad the past couple years. I remember opening weekend for deer season this year we had a nice mix of freezing rain and snow on Friday night. So we were out Saturday morning, fishtailing all over the highway driving to our hunting spot. It's not quite as fun when you're doing 60 MPH though.

Yeah, bad roads and highway speeds blow. :( I remember getting caught in a certain storm when I was driving my 83 RX7 from Winnipeg to Calgary. I was about 2 hours out of Regina on the Winnipeg side and hit this ice/snow storm. I ended up traveling at about 50 KM/s per hour for HOURS! I had the passenger tires on the shoulder to use the little available gravel as grip! People were blowing by me, giving me the finger and what not and minutes later I would pass them only to find them spun out in the ditch.
Speaking of Deer hunting. I am not a huge hunter however, when are you guys going to all get together and take down that population a little. :wicked: It's getting too big! These animals are becoming a danger already!

I wouldn't be much help anyway with the way my hunting luck has gone the last couple years. I must have had at least half a dozen good chances to kill a deer that I managed to screw up somehow. This last season was especially bad. In fact I think I may need to go have a drink, the memories are rushing back...
And yes, I joined the mod staff. You're right, jokes on me. However, I felt I owed the site that much. Truly. I thought since I was being offered and opportunity I might....might be able to make some breakthroughs. I always felt I knew what was going on, I just needed to be sure. And I am sure.

Once upon a time in a forum near here, there was an idealistic young teabag - who was going to make the whole world of forums fair and perfect for all people of the earth... He toiled and typed tirelessly from his mountain apartment building layer, with help from a happy giant talking rabbit friend and a high speed internet connection. I think he finally intentionally cut off his own ear with a #2 landscaper's trowel. To prove some point. Or something. ;]

Whats up everybody?! Just checking in and seeing how everyone is. I've been doing a lot of my posting over at HF Boards lately, but I do miss the old gang.
As for me, I'm at my second year doing a degree in Political Science at Memorial. Had a disappointing first year GPA as I realized it wasn't highschool anymore, which meant I actually had to work. So last term I picked it up with a 3.7 which should comfortably get me into law school if I keep it up along with a good LSAT.
The Leafs are horrible, btw. I remember a time when I used to argue they were better than the Sens, those were the days. Now I have to argue they're better than the Kings..
Oh, and even though he's in Chicago, Havlat still sucks. :)

I heard they're gonna trade him. He's had a few 'incidents' with some teammates apparently. I'm sure kicking was not involved.
Havlat for Linden?
Thought that this was sorta kinda ironic and funny.

Hey, I remember this movie a long long time ago. This movie didn't do well in the box office though.
