After reading about you getting a speeding ticket yesterday, I thought it was so cool that I wanted one myself. So this afternoon I got clocked at 75 km/h right in front of a 50 km/h sign and received a nice $95.00 ticket (he reduced my speed to 70). YAY! SPEEDING TICKETS!

So.. we're both doing 25 km/h over the speed limit, yet my ticket is about 50% more than yours? No fair :burning:

I got a ticket back in dec doing 115 km/hr in a 80 zone... and I over took the cop on top of it ... I only got $150 ticket, which I ended up getting reduced to $89... I also didnt have updated registeration in my car, and my lience plate stickers werent updated either...
I would suggest both of you make a trip to court, you can get them reduced unless you really want to pay the whole thing....
Ps. Congrats PDO you should be able to register pretty quick here.

Well, I almost had another incident of road rage last night...
I was driving home after a busy day at work, already pissed off because I had to cover for a co-worker of mine who, amazingly enough, has been sick on Wednesday for the third straight week (must be some kind of Wednesday only illness). I should mention that the headlights in my truck are Silverstars, which (at least around here) are the brightest legal headlights you can have. Anyway, I get stuck behind this car for about a mile and a half on a two-lane road.
We both turn onto a four lane road (two heading in each direction). The car in front of me pulls into the far lane, I turn into the near lane. As I pass the car, the driver (a woman) guns it and rides right up my tailgate, flashing me with her brights. I tap on the brakes to get her off my ass, which pisses her off even more. She gets back in the other lane and pulls up along side me with her window down yelling "Turn your brights off you ******* asshole!". Already being slightly pissed off, I yell back "I don't have my ******* brights on b***h!". This didn't sit very well with her boyfriend (at least I'm assuming it was) sitting in the passenger seat. He yells "What the **** did you say?" at me, to which I respond kindly "Are you ******* deaf?". From the look on his face, I think he would have started to throw punches at me if we both weren't in moving vehicles. Anyway, at about that time I reached the point where I turn off onto my street. I kindly flip both of them off, and then turn off the four-lane road, leaving them behind.
Apparently people don't like my headlights.:boogie:
Police: Man killed girlfriend who refused to heat his sandwiches
UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) ? A man threw a microwave at his girlfriend, then fatally beat her after she refused to heat up sandwiches, police said.
Walter S. Fordyce, 58, of Uniontown, remained jailed without bond Thursday on a charge of criminal homicide. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.
Fordyce told police he began arguing with his live-in girlfriend, Mary McCann, 58, early Thursday.
After throwing her to the floor, Fordyce threw a microwave oven onto McCann's chest after she refused to heat up sandwiches for him, he told police. Fordyce also said he stomped on McCann's chest repeatedly then banged her head on the floor until she lost consciousness -- but that he also said he didn't mean to kill her, police said.
"It was an accident. I didn't do it on purpose," police quoted Fordyce as saying.
Fordyce ran to a neighbor's house for help, but couldn't find anyone there to call 911, police said. After returning home and checking McCann for a pulse -- and finding none -- he went downstairs and drank a beer before going to another neighbor's home and asking them to call 911, police said.
Autopsy results were not immediately available

Everyday I pack up the boy and take him to the school bus. Its different in the winter. In the winter you have to get all bundled up and the only things you are really aware of is the cold, the snow, and the equiptment used to clean it. Get out, drop off and get in!!
In the spring, you are aware of so much more, the birds, the blossiming trees, the flirting squirrels, the other parents, especially the moms ;)
One other thing, and this is only on recycle day....you get to know who the boozers are in the neighbourhood.
If anyone has a decent knowledge about the UN and some free time before 6PM EST a PM would be greatly appreciated :).
Hope all you folks are enjoying the long weekend,I know I'am!
Work has been just awful and finally I get a break from this horrendous 60 hr work weeks as I'm just freakin drained. As most of you know I work on a golf course and right now our irrigation system is causing nothing but leaks and wiring problems and to top it off our machines are breaking down and the grass is growing out of control so work has been nothing but a nightmare the last month and why I haven't been posting much lately.Should be back to normal in a couple of weeks and am really looking forward to seeing the Oilers get to the Finals(yes I've jumped on the bandwagon) and can't wait for the World Cup of Soccer,June is going to be awesome!

I don't know if you'll get the desired result.
Shaving cream becomes "creamy" as it is expelled from the can with the help of a propellant (a propane/butane mix . . . which is why the can says explosive).
What's in the can, before being activated by the propellant, is a liquid.
Also, if you read the can, it says not to puncture . . .this may cause the can to explode as well.
And, I believe there is a warning about not to freeze or incinerate the can . . .again with the explosive properties.
So worse case, somebody loses a body part while trying this stunt.
Best case, you are able to do it and the resulting seepage turns out to be a sticky(nice smelling) liquid.
In my day, every morning, they played the National Athem.
We stole the tape, recorded over it . . . Pink Floyd's "We don't need no education".
You could hear the cheers through the halls.
Another, more sinister, thing we did (or attempted) was to overload the plumbing.
Get everyone to go to the bathrooms, then on a pre-determined signal (morning bell, fire alarm . . .etc) everyone flush, turn on the taps, etc.
The theory is, with so much demand on the plumbing system . . .it will fail.
Sadly, I got caught . . .suspended . . .and nearly had to repeat my final year.

If I don't post for a few days here, I may be in jail for assaulting some protestors...
Last week, two North Dakota National Guardsmen were killed by an IED over in Afghanistan. One of them I actually went to school with, although he was a year behind me. Now there's a group of people that are planning on protesting against the war at his funeral tomorrow. They claim that American soldiers are dying in Afghanistan and Iraq as punishment from God against gay people. A local biker group, made up of American veterans, is going to show up at the funeral tomorrow and prevent these people from protesting.
Protesting is one thing, but to do it at the funeral of an American soldier, who willingly put his life on the line for others? It's beyond sickening, and they should all be embarrased to be Americans, or human beings for that matter. I'd love to throw them all in an airplane and airdrop them onto the streets of Afghanistan or Iraq.:curse:

I have seen those nut cases on CNN, they are all related to the "pastor" of this small sect in Kansas. I hope they rot in hell for what they do at the funerals. What ever a person's position is on Iraq or George Bush or whatever, somebody's funeral is not the place to protest. Let the family of the deceased have some dignity and privacy to mourn and celebrate the life that was lost.

Bisexual orchid does 360-degree twist to self-pollinate
An orchid growing in harsh conditions defies gravity to twist its male sexual organs 360 degrees to fertilize its female organ, Chinese scientists have discovered.
The Holcoglossum amesianum orchid is shown in its natural habitat during the flowering season. (Courtesy of LaiQiang Huang, Tsinghua University Graduate School at Shenzhen)
The pink-flowered orchid, Holcoglossum amesianum, grows on tree trunks at altitudes of 1,200 to 2,000 metres in China's Yunnan province.
The plant flowers during the drought season from February to April, when there is no wind.
Under such conditions, the plant can't use the traditional means of mating used in flowering plants, such as relying on insects or other animals, wind, or gravity to carry the pollen.
In Thursday's issue of the journal Nature, LaiQiang Huang of the centre for biotechnology and biomedicine at Tsinghua University in Shenzhen, China, and colleagues report what they say is a new type of self-pollination mechanism....

Next year I'm staying here in my home town for something called a transfer year. I'm not sure if you're familiar with it. The year after I'm either moving to St. Johns or going to London, Ontario to study political science and french. Then after that I will go to law school, but I'm not sure which one yet. I'm not leaving Canada though.

My kid comes bouncing into our room at 5:35 AM "the sun is up, time to play Daddy!" I was hoping to sleep till 7:00:(
Was an angry drunk last night.. put back an entire 26 of Jack Daniels, spent a lot of time walking and a lot of yelling in frustration that was drowned out by music.

It is road construction season here in the Okanagan and yet people continue to speed through the posted zones, or take having yield and merge lanes as a personal insult. Doesn't matter that a 43 year old single parent working as a flag person was killed about 6 weeks ago when hit by a speeding drunk driver:mad:
Slow down and live longer people.

I was at my parents house yesterday, and my son had to pee.
I took him to the nearest tree.
My wife said I shouldn't encourage behaviour like that.
I said . . .at least he got out of the pool.
Now mostly, my son goes to the washroom.
But sometimes, when he's playing . . .urinating becomes less of a priority.
When he says he has to go . . .he's about 10 minutes passed when he should have.
I say find a tree.

Hey Amo, do your boys like Daniel Cook and/or Emily Young? My son loves them and goes to their websites via Treehouse every time he gets his turn on the computer. We limit him to a half hour a day, and to about an hour of less of TV.
So, who here who's aged pleasantly wants to help me out.. ;)
I've got a long stem rose here. I'm going to be giving it to her in about 5 hours. Right now it's wrapped in plastic and 3 feet long. I wanted it to be about 1/3 that length so that I could surprsie her with it to an extent..
Not that doable if it's 3 feet long. So 2 questions:
1) Would cutting it be a bad idea?
2) Would taking the plastic off be an equally bad idea?
Right now it's sitting in the backseat of my car (it's about 5 degrees out) where it'll be for the next 5 hours (I bought it an hour ago).. my plan is to cut it right as I leave, take off the plastic and put it into a water bottle, then slide it into a binder that she'll open when I get to her work.
Eh?

I've tried getting him to watch sesame street but for some reason he can't stand it.
He and I try to spend about a half hr a day on the computer together working on our French. He is way more advanced then I am!! It helps that he goes to an all french school.
The youngen (a year nov 11) looks at the tv from time to time but his energies are spent trying to figure out the child locks around the house. I've nick named him Stewey because he has an evil look most of the time.

After this weekend, I have come to the conclusion that deer hunting sucks. I went out Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and today, and managed to come back with nothing at all. I think I walked 10-12 miles every day I was out, and only shot my rifle 3 times (and all of them were long shots at running deer). Add the fact that it was 35-40 degrees with 25-30 mph winds, and it was a miserable 4 days.
Of course, if I had put in for a buck tag this year, I would have been done 20 minutes into opening day.:o

Work is really slowing down, and seniority is a joke at best.
This week I worked two days (also had a stat, so three)..and I'm oncall today, and tomorrow
This upcoming week, I work one day..and I'm oncall for six days
However, a guy that started a month before me (yes, a lowly..weasely month)..has 4 days of work..and three oncall days
Whats the point in that? I never knew one month would mean so much in seniority

I shot a deer a couple of years ago at the same range, so I know it's within my capabilities. All 3 shots were actually decent broadsides, I just couldn't shoot worth a damn that day. I'm still kicking myself over it too, those were the only decent shots I had all 4 days I went out, and they were all on opening day.:curse:

.... so it's icy.
I'm driving to pick up a date for lunch down 111st northbound.
I'm nearing 40th avenue and there's a van in front of me. It's pretty icy, so I'm only going around 40 km/h. The light turns and the van slams on the brakes. I slam on the brakes, pump my break, and throw it into reverse at the last second...
Doesn't matter one bit.
In the middle of the intersection (with the light still yellow, mind you!) I hit rear end the van, that was still moving and still has brake lights on.
Swear.
Boom.
Second van hits me in the back. Really wrecks up the back of my car, and sends me spinning off to the side.
So... after several hours with cops and insurance companies...
The (asian) woman in front of me, who slammed on the breaks when it was too icy for a yellow light... owes nothing to anyone.
I have to cover her rear end and my front end.
The guy behind me has to cover my rear end and his front end.
Is it just me, or is there something terribly wrong with this picture?
All it takes is the first van to go through the light that was still yellow because it was icy and she didn't have any room to stop anyway. I guess that'd make too much sense though. Instead she rides her brakes into the intersection and continues to brake far past the point of no-return.
BEAUTIFUL.
I was going 40 KM/h, tried to stop, and went right into the intersection because there wasn't room, nor time to stop. But because the woman in front of me couldn't make any sort of judgment, I'm out several hundred dollars, and the guy behind me is likely out several thousand.
God I hate insurance companies.

It was occupied.
The guy behind me attempted to do that and just slid right into me, it was unbelievably icy.
tonight is the night I head back to work after being off on parental leave since may.
THE HACK

.... so it's icy.
:burning:
That sucks man but atleast you're ok,it could have been real serious and you could have been hurt badly. There's just too many bad drivers on the road that have brutal judgement and worse is that there's nothing anybody can do about these people.I have a 88 km commute to work so I've seen about everything bad that can happen when stupid people drive, its frustrating!:burning:
Cheers

Yeah, that's pretty much the angle me and Mr. Jack Daniels are agreeing upon.
Looks like my car's got atleast $2000 to it. I could easily pull in $3000 if I sold it (before today), but it's a 93 Taurus and will likely be black-listed at $1000.
I can drive it though, so..
Anyone know if I'm able to take a cheque from the insurance companies, use it to pay for the womans damage ( ) and then just keep driving my car without a front or rear bumper?
Anger. At. Everything.

I hear you man. Couple of years ago I was driving through the parking lot at school, trying to find a parking spot. So, I slow down to turn left, don't see anybody coming, and start into my turn. Halfway into the turn this chick comes whipping around the corner, and nails my front end at an angle. My left front went straight into the middle of the front of her little POS Honda Civic, and smashed the front end in the middle (it was actually quite impressive considering I wasn't going that fast). My front bumper got pushed back into my left front tire (I had to pry it back with a crowbar to drive it home).
So the cops show up, I get cited for failure to yield (after I specifically told the officer that I looked both ways before turning). She told me that the other driver had the right of way, and it was my fault it happened. Add to that the money I ended up paying to the girl to get her car fixed (I don't even remember how much anymore), and it was a pretty bad day. I drove around with a messed up front bumper for almost a year before I had enough money saved up to fix the damn thing.
Some people should not be allowed to operate motor vehicles...

Well, I went to my staff party the other night. Drinks were cheap
To sum it up..I drank too much, and will never again drink red wine
I didnt eat enough, and the red wine really took a toll on my stomach
Anyway, had a great time..if only I could remember when I left! So yeah..I blacked out. Somehow I managed to get home..stumbling thru the city..
Several times during the night, awoke and puked up acid (red wine does this to your stomach)
I should have stuck with what I know best..whiskey. He's a good friend :thumb:

So about every 10 years I lose a scarf in the middle of winter. I like to hold onto comfortable clothes and I really don't care much for waht is in style, I figure if it works and is comfortable with no holes keep it. I lost my scarf on friday, I had bought it justover 10 years ago after I lost another one in a bar called Slack Alice's in Penticton. I figure Asterix will get a chuckle out of that, heck he could have even found it;) :pimp:
I got my results back for my residential construction course.
Final exam was multiple choice and had 125 questions, 15 of which were questions that involved terms we never went over and may have been covered in one line at the back of the text books. I got 106 of the 125 questions right for 85%, the highest final exam mark in the class.
My overall mark was also 85%.
The only thing I blew during the course was attendance, which was worth 5% of the final mark. I had several medical issues (hand surgery, sprained knee and a screwed up back) and had to miss several weeks. I got 0 of the 5% but considering I had medical documentation the entire time, I feel I got screwed over. My final mark would have been 90% if not for attendance.
But in the end, I ended up 2nd or 3rd in the class and I know I'm in the top 3 for ability and talent so all is good.
congrats Tea. Top 3 in the class even with attendance penalty.
Nice work :)

I chose not to watch the Oscars, bringing my consecutive not watching awards shows total to 25 years. I don't watch their crappy movies, stupid tv shows or listening to their boring music so why would I want to see them get an award for it.
The apartment building I'm in was sold last summer and one of the new rules is we are allowed small pets. I hate this rule because the apartment under mine is occupied by someone with a yappy little dog that likes to bark for 30 minutes at a time and several times a day. I'm thinking about complaining to the landlord because it's annoying as heck when I'm trying to watch hockey or sleep. If the landlord will do nothing, I plan to start walking around on my squeaky kitchen floor at 2 AM each day to piss off the dog. We will see who leaves first; me or the yappy dog. :D
CNN is still talking about Anna Nicole Smith.
What was she really; a Playboy Playmate who became a stripper, then married a 80 something old guy, fought with the guy's son for money she didn't deserve, had a reality tv show for one season, and then died.
She wasn't a famous actress, politician, scientist, or humanitarian. Nor did she save anyone from poverty or starvation.
Yet there was wall to wall coverage for days, flowers laid at the gates of her Bahamas home and fans at her funeral.
She did nothing that will be remembered in the history books except fight for money that wasn't hers, yet somehow in death she became more important that reporting on real news.
Yet people watched her crappy life unfold on television and became fans of yet another stupid reality show of some third rate celebrity. But I guess in a country or countries where tabloid tv is so rampant, I should have expected to see Anna Nicole held in such high regard for doing relatively nothing.
On the other hand, James Brown, who had real talent, has yet to be laid to rest because of family squabbles but he hasn't been mentioned in weeks.

Actually she was a waitress who became a stripper and then got into Playboy. ;) The fact that I know this distrubs me, because I have fallen into the trap of the celebrity obsessed media culture. Lead by Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes what occured to British media in the 1970's is happening here in North America ( the USA but with obvious spill over into Canada) we are fed a diet of gossip, girls with large breasts, sports sensaitionalism, and right wing views of the news form major media outlets. There are claims of left wing bias but there is a lack of objective and reasoned debate on what is important.

Salma Hayek engaged, pregnant
NEW YORK (AP) -- Next up for Salma Hayek is a wedding -- and a baby carriage.
The 40-year-old actress is engaged to businessman Francois-Henri Pinault and is pregnant with their first child, her spokeswoman, Cari Ross, said Friday in a statement. No further details were provided.
The Mexico-born Hayek has starred in films such as "Frida," "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over" and "After the Sunset." She is one of the executive producers of ABC's "Ugly Betty," in which she recently guest starred as a two-faced magazine editor.
Pinault is chairman and chief executive officer of the luxury goods company PPR SA, which owns high-end labels such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and Stella McCartney.
Hayek received an Oscar nomination for her role in 2002's "Frida."

My parents, friends, and some co-workers have taken to calling me Doctor because of how long I've been going to school, joking that I've been in college long enough already to have a doctorate in something.
It reminds me of the scene from Tommy Boy...
"Did you hear I finally graduated?"
"Yeah, and just under a decade too, all right."
"You know a lot of people go to college for 7 years."
"I know, they're called doctors."
Anyway, it appears I'll be graduating a few months later than planned. I went to my advisor and found out that one of the history classes I took doesn't count towards my graduation requirements. Apparently they stopped counting it towards the requirements this year, which is just wonderful.:curse:
So now I have to take a history class over the summer before I can graduate. So instead of graduating in May, I'll be graduating sometime in July or August, basically ruining half of my summer.:curse:

So I went to the championship game for Canadian womens' hockey. It was Alberta (Calgary Oval Extreme) against Ontario 2 (Etobicoke Dolphins), both existing club teams. Alberta won 3 - 0 in what was rather a boring game with little consistent action and a lot of soft shots. Ontario 2 had gone to triple OT against Ontario 1 late Friday night so the team was understandably tired. The only bright spot on the team was the stellar play of Ontario 2's goaltender, stopping 47 of 50 shots faced. As for Alberta, I was frankly disappointed in their play, considering many of the players are Olympic and national team members.
The player that really stood out with lacklustre play was Hayley Wickenheiser. From what I witnessed, Wickenheiser was a puck hog who phoned it in half the time and is riding the coattails of her past accomplishments in the sport. She was severely overshadowed by the play of several of her teammates, one of which got a goal and assist in the final. That player being # 27, Gina Kingsbury, who showed grit, drive to the net and a good pair of hands when she had the puck.
The two most exciting things that happened for me are:
1. The announcing table for TSN was set up over several rows of seats below the normal announcing booth with the announcers seated in the top row, directly below the regular booth. It so happened that Dave Randorf and Cassie Campbell sat in the seats my parents normally sit in for Salmon Arm Silverbacks games. (Junior B team) Freakin cool.
2. Many players for the seven teams not involved in the final were in the stands during the game. I did a quick scan and figure that over 70% were beautiful and many were total babes. It's a dream come true, women who play hockey and are hot babes. It is a wonderful day.

Montana man blames unicorn for drunken-driving crash
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A Montana man told police not to blame him for crashing his truck into a light post - it was that unicorn behind the wheel.
Prosecutor Ingrid Rosenquist said Phillip Holliday initially denied driving the truck involved in the March 7 crash in Billings. He told officers at the scene a unicorn was driving, she said.
Holliday, 42, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to felony charges of criminal endangerment and drunken driving.
A pickup truck drove through a red light and nearly struck another truck in the intersection, court documents said. The driver then made an erratic U-turn through a gas station, crossed the street and crashed into a light pole. Nobody was injured.
Holliday has five drunken-driving convictions. District Judge Gregory Todd kept his bail at US$100,000, despite his lawyer arguing Holliday's last such conviction was 14 years ago.http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/WeirdNews/2007/03/13/3747913-ap.html
