PETERBOROUGH, Ont. (CP) - Left winger Jeremy Akeson scored 2:16 into overtime as the Ottawa 67's won the series-opener 3-2 over the Peterborough Petes on Thursday night.

Ottawa leads the best-of-seven Eastern Conference final 1-0 and will host Game 2 on Saturday night. Daniel Ryder's power-play goal 2:23 into the match gave the Petes an early lead, but Jakub Petruzalek scored six minutes later to tie it aty a goal apiece after a period. Chris Hulit put the 67's ahead 2:32 into the second.

Trevor Hendrixx, with the Petes' second man-advantage goal of the game, tied it at 14:30, and neither team was able to get ahead in the third period. Petes goalie Jeff MacDougald blocked 29 shots while Danny Battochio made 26 saves for the 67's. Peterborough converted two of five power-play opportunities and Ottawa did not score on any of their five chances.
