Obviously quite a few players there are listed just beacuse they've played for Canada in the past... for example Steve Staios.

My 23 man roster from this team (assuming 13 F, 7 D and 3 tenders)

Nash - Thornton - Bertuzzi
Smyth - Spezza - Heatley
Gagne - Sakic - Iginila
Kariya - Lecavalier - Lemieux

Doan

Pronger - Blake
Niedermayer - Bouwmeester
Foote - Brewer

Redden (Boyton very close..)

Luongo
Brodeur
Theodore

I'd personally like to go with 2 goalies and bring a bit more youth with us... choose one of Crosby/Phaneuf/Staal/Bergeron

Joseph might get that No.3 spot

Remember that it was given to Belfour the last time around. Also, check out his early SP%, GAA..and Gretzky connection ;)

Also, Theo didn't want to go to the Worlds as a 3rd string..so I don't think he will be there

Agree with all your points.. though I'd be moderately surprised if Joesph is still 100% by the time the olympics roll around. Theodore might think a bit different for the Olympics.. a lot more prestigous.

Anyone know the total number of Canadians that play in the NHL?

Bob McKenzie said that Hockey Canada was considering putting all of them on this list and submitting that to the IIHF, since there is no limit on the number of players.

Not a bad idea, because it gives the selection committee all options when it comes time to select the 23 man roster. If some really obscure player all of a sudden starts to tear it up, then he would be available for Team Canada. Maybe paper printing costs deterred them from doing that.

The reason they didn't do it is because they thougth that it could be construed as making a mockery of the system.

Yeah.. should've anyway.

I find it strange that Staios is listed and Smith isn't.

All here according to country origin -> Player Stats (http://www.nhl.com/nhlstats/stats?service=direct&context=Stats/changeSortColumnAction&fetchKey=20062ALLAAS&sort=player.birthCountryAbbrev&viewName=bios)

(I didn't do the tally)

Thanks.

So there are 10 pages of 30 players, the first page had 27 and the last had 18, so that's 345 NHL players that were born in Canada.

More than I would have guessed.

. . .345 NHL players that were born in Canada.

Yep, roughly half.
