Well Canucks are facing the Stars, the damn game is on PPV so I won't have it, I may have to go to a friends house to watch it.

The Stars have been playing solid hockey this year, Turco is still somehoe playing the puck 40 times a game even with the new rules, and his play in net has been pretty good. They are 4-1 as a team and beat the Oilers last game. We always have it tough against the Stars, we either pull out a great entertaining game and it ends in our favor, or else we pull a Minny game and keep it close relatively somehow but end up finding a way to lose.

This is another big test for the team, facing a hot team in the western conference, if we win I think it could carry us momentum wise for a bit.

This will be a good game

Stars have been hot as of late, but the Canucks did look like a good team against the Wild

If Crow keeps the lines the same, the Canucks win

Start Auld..he has had success against the Stars

4-2 Canucks

I'll be listening to the radio for this game. Not paying for PPV until the October 27 game against the rotten Avs.

As for the Canucks, hopefully Auld starts because he's had success against the Stars. The Canucks beat the Red Wings, a top team, so I expect a similar effort against the Stars with the top line having a breakout night.

Canucks 5 - 4 over the Stars.:D

By the way, I edited the title of the thread to include the date, keeps things clearer.

Going to Boston Pizza to watch the game?

We have a new one by my place. Never been to it, but supposedly decent for hockey games.

But you'd easily make it back in "non-stop" iced tea, no?

5-2 FINAL in favour of the Canucks.

I watched some of the third period and found that to be an entertaining portion of the game. The Canucks pulled away with less than five minutes to go, scoring twice (one powerplay goal). Turco looked bad on both the fourth and fifth goals.

Anyone know who that play-by-play announcer was tonight? He had a fairly quiet voice, but I found him to be good at describing the plays.

From what I saw of the game, the Canucks got a couple of homer penalty calls, and took advantage of them. They had 10 PP's, including a couple 5-on-3s while the Stars only had 4. Of course, the Stars also shot themselves in the foot with some stupid penalties, so it all evened out. The Canucks took advantage of the PP, and they deserved to win because of it.

I have to say the Stars have surprised me so far this season though. They were 4-1 coming into the game, and came back from an early 2-0 deficit, before fading down the stretch. Combined with the 4-0 comeback against the Kings earlier in the year, they seem to be a team that can fight back.

Overall, I think it was a very good game between two very good teams. Solid win by the Canucks.:thumb:

Well I didn't see the game, but looks like Jovanoopsi's finally doing something right with 3 assists, good sign that Floatuzzi got a legit goal and the Sedins, Park and Naslund are continuing to get on the scoresheet.

Anyone know who that play-by-play announcer was tonight? He had a fairly quiet voice, but I found him to be good at describing the plays. If you had the Canucks PPV feed, John Shorthouse was the announcer and Tom Larscheid was the colour commentator/Canucks homer. They work for CKNW (http://www.cknw.com/) 980 AM and do the radio play by play for all Canucks games and are the voices for all the Canucks PPV.

Good points:
1. Alex Auld - except for letting in the soft Stars second goal, Auld played well and made some great saves, particularily the play where Modano passed over to Morrow and Auld made a great sliding save.
2. Richard Park - another goal and impressive speed.
3. Lee Goren - he got a goal, he drew Turco into a penalty, he had a fight, lot of speed and energy. Crawford show confidence in him with powerplay time.
4. Morrison played a lot better in this game; hopefully turned a corner.
5. The powerplay clicked for 3 goals on 10 chances. I'm a bit unhappy about no conversions on the 5 on 3 in the first period.
6. The Canucks were able to get Turco off his game.
7. The penaltykill was perfect this game.
8. Canucks only took 6 penalties.
9. Bertuzzi - even though the refs screwed it up, Todd got a goal when he passed out front, it hit Turco's stick and went in. Good game for Todd, he's waking up and should continue improving.

Bad points:
1. Jovo - sure he got three assists but still he made a lot of mistakes, especially in the Canucks end. Some bad giveaways, missed checks and Stars left wide open. Hard to believe that Bryan Allen is saving his butt. It has to tell you something that even with the three assists, he wasn't one of the game's stars.
2. I saw some clutching and grabbing that wasn't called. Also holding along the boards started the season at the point where the player could hold for maybe 2 or 3 seconds; no it's up to 4 - 5. I don't want the rules relaxed when things are headed in the right direction.
3. The defensive end screw-ups on the two Dallas Stars goals. Who was covering Modano?
4. After spanking the Stars on faceoffs in the 1st period with 65% won, the Canucks went below 50% for the last two periods and ended up winning only 51% of the faceoffs.
5. Inconsistency in level of play and energy. The Canucks were flying in the first period but then the Stars killed the 5 on 3 and took over the game until half way through the second. Thankfully the Canucks woke up and took control back.

Overall, the Canucks are headed in the right direction. I'm happy with the play of Baumgartner and McCarthy in the 5 and 6 defense spots but the Canucks could always improve on the back end. Maybe trade Jovo before he becomes useless.

By the way, I bought the PPV for home and was happy to relax on my couch instead of sitting in a stiff chair at Boston Pizza. Also, no lineup for the bathroom. :D

It was on PPV for Canuckers so we wouldn't know. (assuming you saw the FSN feed or something else)

I can't really comment much since again I didn't see it, but I was watching live updated on the CBS game logs and they show flash images of where shots came from and where they scored from, great stuff, but when Dallas made their push they outshot us by quite a margin. Obviously we picked it up afterwards and came away with the win, but you could tell that after the 2 goals Canucks were in a bit of a rut, but pulled it out.

McCarthy hasn't impressed me. He has speed, and thats about it. Bad positioning, and doesn't hit.

Baumgartner has been a pleasant surprise. Decent as the 6th defenseman. Good positioning.

Enough of the trade Jovo talk. I'd like to wait and see with him. If he is traded, it will be at the deadline

Well, I didn't see the game..so I can't say much

Do you think Goren will take Brookbank's spot? He can fight, and brings more to the table.

I really like Park's energy, and shot. Always shows a good effort.

Auld was solid against the Stars

Well after seeing the highlights, I have to correct myself, Floatuzzi got a fluke goal, not a legit one, still waiting for one of those from supposedly the league's premier power forward, 6 games in. Goren from all accounts had by far his best game yet, looking like an actual Canuck power forward. Auld looked bad on both goals, that first one is the 2nd time in as many games he's got caught guessing the wrong direction the puck's coming out from behind the net. Thanks for the Jovanoopsi update Iced Tea, should've known that he's still a big fat liability back there, why Crawford continues to give him minutes is a mystery, although I suppose if he gets 3 points a game and they win, I could overlook a lot of it.

On a similarily related note to JR.. what is the name of the play-by-play guy for the Canucks PPV?

Asides from the fact he's a huge homer (which is obviously expected) he seems to have a great voice.

But, "Oh-Captain my Captain" was still one of the worst lines in all of sports commentating history

Yeah, Goren is decent. Just has to hit the net. My brother was at the game, said he missed a great chance..by a mile

He had a great year with the Moose..just has to work on his speed.

About Auld..agreed. He should have had the second goal, but the Canucks scored to win.

If it was Cloutier, people would be screaming for his head ;)

Larscheid does the colour commentary, and Shorthouse does the announcing.

Both are complete morons  Larscheid is really too much of a homer for my liking

Actually I said he looked bad on both goals, disagreeing with most that said just the one. Trust me I'm not sold on Auld anymore than I am Cloutier, in the one playoff oportunity he's had he reminded me more of a train tunnel with his gaping 5-hole that the opposition put numerous pucks through than he did of an NHL goaltender who I'd like to rest the hopes of my otherwise championship calibre team on. Now it appears he flips a coin in his head and picks which side to cover when the puck's behind the net, and he's 0/2 by my count on his guessing.

Only difference between him and Cloutier so far is that he's blown 1 opportunity in the playoffs, Cloutier's blown about 3-4.
